Recording BitRate and etc...
I'm trying to record programs for later burning to DVD with out re-encoding. From what I've read here, "DVD Long Play" of 2.4 GB/Hr should be OK for a 2 hour movie on a DVD5.
Problem is, the 2 hour movie turns out to be 5.15 GB. Is there something I'm missing, or must I drop down to "DVD Extra Long" at 1.6 GB/hr , or maybe the "GREAT Mpg" @ 2.0 GB/hr (which I beleive is CBR vs. VBR). Any info would be appreciated as I don't want to reduce quality below 2.4, nor do I want to re-encode whenever I can avoid it. |

The bitrates are only estimates..
Instead of re-encoding, create an oversized DVD filestructure and use something like DVDShrink to shrink it to 4.7Gb (DVDShrink does not do a full decode/re-encode)

Thanks for your response.
I did a "little" checking, and it's my understanding that while DVDShrink will perform the operation faster, A re-encode with Ulead MF3 would result in better quality (please correct me if this is wrong). So until I attempt to put in a custom rate, it looks like I'm stuck with this issue. |
