Feature Idea - Theater Listings

I have had my Sage box up and running for a little over a month now and I must say that I love it....not a problem yet. Before I was using GB-PVR and switched because I just had too many problems. The only thing I miss is the Theater Listing plugin that was created for it. It would allow me to put in my Zipcode and would show local Theaters along with the movies and times they played. I have no clue about creating STV add ins but I would think it would be a lot like the weather add in in the way itwould pull the data from a particular site. Be nice to view the trailers too. Not sure if a lot of folks would be interested but I thought someone might like to try and make it.....just an idea. The example over at GB-PVR is http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/P...TheaterListing

Another thing that would be nice, if someone does this, is to have the ability to play the movie trailers. And, be sure to include trailers for both currently showing and coming soon movies.

If I knew more about Studio, and/or I had enough time, I might give this a shot, but I know someone else could do a better job than me...

This has been mentioned before. I always thought it would be near impossible to accomplish because nation wide, the listings are published through different media outlets. It would be a herculean task to compile them all daily.

Then today I was at www.zap2it.com reporting a bad chanel line up for my EPG and noticed that they are now publishing movie times. Enter a zip code and you get a choice of movies or theaters near you. They also include movie profiles, and trailers for some of the films. Since zap2it supplies our program guide info for Sage here in the states, this might actually be doable.

I'm not a studio guy so somebody would have to look and see if it is possible to tap additional services from zap2it. It might be built into the sage core and not editable.

It looks like somebody would have to check with the Sage folks to see what the extent of their license is with zap2it. It's pretty thourough though. Upcoming movies, reviews, top box office gross $$, all kinds of stuff.

Another source is Fandango.com. I have used several web scripts that utilize their backend and there is a script for Meedio that uses it as well. It covers all theaters nationwide. Put in the zip and it returns a list of theaters in that zip which you click on to get the details. Lots of scripts use it so it works fine. I think it is just not a priority for those that have the ability to write the code. I would love to see this even as part of the Sage core like the Weather module. It's function is not much different than that module. One of these days someone will get some free time to look at it. Unfortunately they all have lives as well.

This is about the last piece why I haven't used sage entirely. If a plug-in was made for sage, I can completely not use meedio.

This plugin was started and I guess I still host the files, even though ToonGal is the author.

Nice. I guess I can share in helping host the files also. To bad I don't know squat about java. LOL! Has anybody taken a gander at this? I really like how the plug-in function works with meedio, as it can download times, posters, and trailers.

Hey this is great to see! Been looking forward to a movie listing plugin but haven't seen much feedback on it. Glad to see there are others interested and there is some sample code already done. . Not a coder but I'm a good tester

Hi, my theatre time screen works pretty good. Read up on it here.

http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...1&postcount=14

Basically, you edit the RSS reader to do theatre times. Just paste the link to the isnoop.net pagefor the theatre in question.

I have 8 local theatres in mine, all update fast, show times when highlighted etc. Wish it was formated better, but it does the job.

When you do this what you will see is the number of theatres and nothing else until highlighted. So if the theatre in question has 10 screeens, when you highlight number one, you will see the name and times, when you down arrow to two, you see the name and times for that one. Its not all displayed at the same time, but it works.

Good luck.

Very cool. I did try it out and also noticed the lack of of data in the screen below. Works good enough for now though Hopefully someone will get the time and inclination to make a full mod for this feature. It just seems like this would be a highly sought after feature for any HTPC based application. You can find some derivitive of a Theater listing app for almost every HTPC application except Sage. I'll be happy to use this until a full app comes along. Keep us updated if you find any other feeds (I'm assuming it is the feed format) that might format a little nicer.

Yes, Homebuilder & Xsabre hit the nail on the head ... I also use the RSS Theater Listing to get what's playing where and when. In addition, when using Neilm's Dynamic menus I put it side by side with Neilm's IMDB (Internet Movie Database) plugin. Basically, that provides the same results that I see in the GB-PVR screen shots above ...

Not a Theater Listing plugin but does the job well for me ... and beats what I had before ... Nothing ...
