Where Sage 4.1.xx has gotten me
I am truly disappointed at this point. I have been using Sage for about 6 months and now my experience with it is grinding to a halt. I have fought with this version upgrade this entire weekend and the more I do to it the more it seems to degrade. I have gone from 1 functional server and 2 clients (one mvp and the other a standalone pc) to just the server and the standalone client. Since Friday:
a) my mvp extender is just showing loading application and this was working at the end of last week with the mvp.bin beta.. b) No sound on my pvr150 card (which was also working fine up until yesterday.. c) when I did have the mvp working it was stuttering anyway. BTW Matt's MVP would also stutter here and there and disconnect once a night so I would have to go down 3 flights to restart it killing my WAF even further (it is on a wired network). Anyhow .. Im kinda stumped at this point and for the investment Ive made into getting this thing to run correctly (faster processor, more RAM, wiring the house for client on a gb network, etc.) I would hate to let it go... I just want to know if its even worth waiting for the next version and hoping it fixes everything I mentioned above??? |

QUOTE] My limited 4 day (so far) experience has shown me that the stuck on loading application is caused by trying to connect at 100 MBPS instead of using 10 MBPS or auto Detect. The 10 MBPS is only need after a cold reboot (disconnect of power) of the MVP. I have my MVP extender connected directly to the computer using a crossover cable. I find using the Auto Detect the best for connection problems. I can also force the connection at 10 MBPS and then change to 100 MPBS after the Sage Server comes up. I have seen some stuttering but is random. The most noticable stuttering I encounter is seen when I Jump forward or Backward in the program. It seems to take a second or 2 for the MVP to settle down and play with no stutter. I suspect that the MVP needs that second or 2 to fill its internal buffers.

When did you install the DGL-4300? Did the MVP it ever work with that router? Do you use the latest mvp.bin? _demo_ has posted a link http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15161
You need to pull the power plug on the MVP, using the power button on the remote does not suffice, before you put in the new mvp.bin. I'd also stop all Sage processes before you start. Edit: I have two switches between the MVP and my DGL-4300. There's not much other traffic coming from the room the MVP is in (just one other PC), but there's quite some traffic on the second switch, before the MVP talks to the server which is plugged into the DGL directly. I don't see any problems, watching Standard DVD quality stuff on the MVP. Last edited by flavius; 01-09-2006 at 06:38 PM. |

To the people of Sagetv. How about an overhaul of all the out standing issues in the current software release ? or dare I say it, email us back would be start. To provide us with a wee bit more "tech support"?hey at least I get a auto responce email from other smaller companies that I have purchased software from when I'm asking for info or help. Scott a side note, I'm currently looking into other PVR software that will provide a stable solution for my needs. |

did you think, that just maybe there has been issues going on for months and people in threads have reported them to Sage with no responces....
I wouldnt say such harsh statement if it wasn't true ! |

Sage is a good company and have a great product. Most of the PVR software out there requires extra licenses for multiple tuners. Sage does not. Also, the others tend to change quite a bit for upgrades, while Sage has yet to do that. Good luck finding another PVR software that has no bugs in it, though. One of them out there uses Windows .NET framework and can't even detect a network connection on most systems. (One problem Sage has never experienced)..... Let's put it this way.... .Try to write an 800 page source code of a PVR with huge variations in hardware and OS's, and have it be bug free... It's not as easy as it sounds, but I've found that Sage listens more to us than most companies out there. If they don't answer you first, most of us will. Lauren |

After looking at that interview Video from CES, perhaps Sage is focused on pushing out big new features, at the expense of sufficiently debuged/supported 4.1.
An optimistic view is that Sage was crunching for CES and that's over for now. |

The only times I've had to contact tech-support they have been fairly quick, and helpful. The only time I've had any delays was in getting my MVP Key, took about a week. I'm not trying to downplay anybody's problems, and by no means say that no communication for 2 weeks is ok, but look at what they've released in the past month. We have native MVP support, Linux OEM, v4.1.3/4.1.4, and the announcement of the Java client. That's alot of stuff coming out in a very short time (what, 3, almost 4 weeks tops?), and I'm sure they have been getting hammered. Add to that preparing for a show like CES takes a good deal of their time, and there has to be a breakdown somewhere. I'd be willing to bet tho, now that it's all out and CES is over, we'll see more development pointed towards making things work...
