Screen won't fill when viewing programs

I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased a Samsung 32" LCD TV and connecting a client computer via the VGA port. I have two servers I connect to; one with the HD content and one with the standard content. When I view the HD recordings they fill up the screen and everything is great, however, when I am viewing the SD content I can't get the full screen to display. It has black or purple bars on the sides no matter what I select(fill, source, 4:3, or 16:9)

I am using a machine with a 3200+ Sempron with 1.2Gb of memory and onboard video using the ATI radeon express x200.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Dennis

Right click on the desktop to get into the ATI video card software by selecting "properties" then "settings" and then click on the monitor. When the next screen comes up, select monitor. Select the TV and click overscan. This should fill the screen, at least it does for me.

I will give that a try. How much of a better picture would I get if I purchased a new video card with a DVI output which I could connect to my HDMI port? Would I have more options on expanding my screen like I do when watching through the coax input?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I started a thread prior. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14941 See if any of the tips in there help you. They did not fix my problems, but may for you.

Beau

Glad to hear you got it working. I'm still seeing the problem. I am already using VMR9. Anyone else got any ideas? Thanks.

Beau

Is "Anamorphic or Raw Aspect" checked in the NVIDIA decoder? How large are the bars? If set to "Fill", there is still some underscan at 100%, 100%. My fill setting is set for 103%, 103%.

I had the exact same problem and through trial and error also switched to vmr9 and it fixed the problem. I should have known that the problems were related to decoding as the menu's and DVD's played through windvd were always full screen
