SageTV Freezes

I've seen a few posts that talk about the UI freezing while doing
certains tasks but it freezes for me while just watching TV w/o
pushing any buttons. I can be watching a show and after about
10 minutes it just freezes. Most of the time the CPU uses of the
sagetv.exe jumps up to 99% and I have to kill it using the task
manager. I've thought about switching to a new JVM but am
unsure how to do this. I have several unzipped on my machine
but I don't see any property I can change to point to a specific
one. Any ideas on the freeze issue or how to point to a specific
jvm?
thanks

It is a registry edit. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment]

Thanks but that just shows "installed" versions - I think.
I have jdk 1.5 on my machine (unzipped) but it doesn't show up in
the list and I'd like to try that one.
In regedit I see 2 different 1.4 versions - is there any way to control
which one sagetv will use - or even make it use my 1.5?

Any ideas on the freezes?
thanks!

Actually I'm thinking the jvm issue isn't what's causing the freeze.
I can consistently get it to freeze by simply letting it sit
there (watching a show) for about 10 minutes. Any ideas would be
appreciated - I really do like this product but before I move from the
trial version to a purchased one I'd like to know I can watch more than
10 minutes w/o having to restart it.

You can add debug_logging=TRUE (exactly like that, including CAPS) to the sage.properties file (or sageclient.properties if using service mode). Edit the properties file only after SageTV or the service has been completely exited. Restart to have that property cuase a log file to be created... and maybe it will have some info from when the problem occurs.

Well, with that debug property set I was able to watch tv for quite a
while - after an hour of sitting on one station I decided to push the
system a bit and wander around the menus. I went into the list of
recordings (videos) and hit the stop button - it appeared to erase
the files that were there (the show that just ended and the one that
just started), which is ok, but then I got the Window's error dialog
saying that the program ended abnormally and asked if it wanted to
send the error info to MSFT.
So this isn't the hang issue I've seen before but I have seen this one
a lot too.
I did appear to get a log file, sagetv_0.txt, or should I look for
some other file? Where should I send it?
thanks!

SageTV tech support may be able to help, so I would zip any logs & describe things for them.

Last night I upgraded my Java to the latest (1.5) and it appears
to have fixed the errors I was seeing. No more hangs, freezes
or crashes so far (I hope I'm not jinxing it) but we've gone all day
w/o seeing any of those problems.
Perhaps that might fix the hangs/freezes... others are seeing as
well.

Keep in mind that others have installed this latest update of Java and have had problems with it. On my own system, I'm running the latest of everything, and it all works fine. On the other system I maintain, it was having a lot of problems (including freezing), and I seem to have gotten it fixed by using an earlier version of Java and turning off 3D acceleration.

I think there's definitely something hinky going on in Sage, and I'm glad that I'm not going to have to find it in the code. I have enough weird problems to deal with in the code I do write.

All I can say to the Sage guys is good luck, and I hope you find the problem soon...
