To install QoS Packet Scheduler
1. Open Network Connections.
2. Click any connection, and then, on the File menu, click Properties.
3. Click Install, click Service, and then click Add.
4. Click QoS Packet Scheduler, and then click OK.

Hi Demo,

There are a lot of problems with stuttering i see. However, there is also the issue for (i believe) the PAL users having a green screen after installing the beta.
I sure hope this will be adressed as well. I prevents me from using the update. I had to roll back to the old version.

Cheers,
Henk99

Just installing the service doesn't really do anything. Did you turn on packet tagging? Does your router or network setup recognize that your NIC is sending out tagged packets? More importantly does the MVP send out and understand QoS tags? If the answer to any of the above is no then all you are doing is adding overhead to your network. If the MVP understands QoS tagging then I'll have to turn on the service. If you are running Win2K/XP Pro i believe that it is installed be default.

I also had a problem with the power off, but I was watching the forum before I jumped in.
I just purchased a Logitech Harmony 520 remote to consolidate all my remotes and noticed the Logitech can now turn off the MVP, power light and all. The codes were downloaded from Logitech’s site using the setup software, but my MVP remote will not turn it off, only the Logitech will. So is this power fix for the new remotes? I have an older (1.5 years old) MVP with the older/smaller remote. Could this be the issues?

Sorry about that, I forgot to add the old remote for power off. It will be fixed in the next version.

Stutters over Wireless

I seem to be pretty rock solid now when using a Cat5 cable connected to the MVP through my Linksys WRT54GS switch but am still having significant stuttering issues when connecting to that network via the netgear game adapter with encoding anything better than 'good'. I've used netstumbler and I am getting about 48mbit at the MVP.. recordings done at 'good' or anything lesser than that playback fine.. I don't know if this is a switch issue, a game adapter issue, a wireless issue or what... is anybody else using a similiar setup and having similiar issues? I had expected to find that I was getting low signal to the MVP that stutters, but 48mbit should be fine, I'd think! Perhaps when Sage gets the wireless MVP's in stock there will be more people with issues like this and it will be easier to debug..

This WAS NOT an isssue with Matt's plugin and exactly the same equipment and settings..

Current issue I have noticed

The current issue I am having is the MVP will not finish booting with the Sage service. It sits at the media booting screen. If I disable the service and stop it and just bring up the Sage UI it connects everytime. Has anyone else noticed this?

Are you talking about the "MediaMVP" loading screen or the "SageTV" loading screen. Ever since I've loaded the new mvp.bin from _demo_ i haven't had any loading problems. I'm always running in service mode. Can you do a ethernet capture and sage debug while your MVP is in this state and post the results here?

Sorry-the Sage TV loading screen. I'll try to do a debug tonight. I don't know how useful a ethernet capture will be because it works fine just running the Sage UI and no Service. So this shows there isn't a network issue. I had it working with Service before I did a clean reload of OS and Sage.

and you've loaded the new mvp.bin? It would seem that there is something wrong with your mvp.bin if it never progresses past the loading screen. After the MVP loading screen what happens is that the MVP is executing the image that was loaded onto the MVP and if i'm not mistaken it querries one of the sage properties files for configurations on the MVP. You're correct that it doesn't seem to be a network issue since the UI works w/o the service but at least you'll be able to see if the MVP is communicating with the Service at this point or not.

I am experiencing the same issue. I hadn't thought of disabling the Sage service, but I'll try that tonight.

I'm having a similar problem that just started all of the sudden this morning. My wife was watching Live TV and then it studdered and went blank. She tried power cycling it and the MVP got to the please wait while SageTV media center is loading, but it was flashing, then it went to a snowy screen and then went black. She tried restarting the sagetv service and then plugging in the MVP and it did the same thing - flashing please wait, snow, then black. she woke me up and i rebooted the whole computer, then plugged in the MVP and again, the same thing - flashing please wait, snow, then black. I then shutdown the service and deleted the beta image and re-downloaded it thinking it was corrupted, started the service, plugged in the MVP and again was greeted with the flashing please wait, no snow this time, and a black screen. Finally, I shutdown the service, renamed the beta image, brought the old 4.1.4 image back, started the service, and plugged the MVP in and it all works again.

This is really odd and I'm afraid to go back to the beta image now.

Any word on high mem and cpu usage?

Has there been any progress on discovering why 4.1.xxx uses so much memory and CPU. I honestly believe that this is what is causing the majority of my issues...

I had a similar setup. My sage server was running on a PC which was connected to the network via Netgear 54Mbps router. MVP was connected to the same router physically. Anything above good was a problem. Yesterday, I connected my sage server PC physically to the router and all stuttering went away! Now, I can watch with no stuttering on the MVP even at MPEG2 MAx Quality (5.9 gb/hour)!
I have not yet figured out if it is a problem with my Netgear router or the MVP or sage Media Extender.

As a follow-up: Last night I disabled the SageTV service, and tried both the old mvp.bin, and the beta one. Neither of them worked, and my MVP was left at the "media center is booting up" screen...

I've done a capture of the stuttering problem. It looks like there are several packets being sent to the MVP that have incorrect checksums. Looks like these are resends which would explain the stuttering. _demo_ if you want I'll send you a copy of this file. It's a little big so i'll have to host it somewhere.

edited to add:
I forgot to add that this also occurs while not play video when the menu is displayed in idle. I'm going to do a couple more captures with some different settings on my NIC with flow control and QoS to see if they really make a difference in my case.
