Is All Video Editing Software Terrible To Use?

I've just wasted about three hours trying to edit a Sage recording using AVS Video Editor. Cut out all the ad breaks, all the references to other programs, was just cutting off the extra crap at the end of the recording - and it deleted all my work so far. No undo button. No checking whether I really wanted that to happen. Just hours of work down the drain.

I suppose I should have been saving the project after each successful edit, but in this day and age I don;t expect to have to do that!

Every time I try to do some video editing using any software I find it paralysingly frustrating and unintuitive in the user interface. In four months of using Sage I have yet to archive anything to DVD because it is so ludicrously difficult and long-winded to do simple things like topping and tailing and removing adverts.

Very Frustrated!

I do not use AVS Video Editor but the two programs that I do use is VideoRedo (For video to encode) and TMPGenc DVD Author(For videos to archive on dvd). Open the mpeg in DVD Author and it is easy to make the cuts. about five minutes, then when done burn to blank DVD.
VideoReDo has more features and does not burn to Blanks but is even easier to cut as it has an automatic Advertisement detection feature.

I use a ShowAnalyzer to detect the commercials and output the VideoRedo project file then VideoRedo to cut them out - it doesn't get much better then that. I have found that SA has been spot on every single time I've used it and it required no further editing in VideoRedo.

VideoRedo

VideoRedo - It does not get any beter or simpler. You can edit by hand frame by frame or use the auto stuff. Just try it....

I love VideoRedo. Unfortunately, most video editing software has a steep learning curve and can take a long time time to learn.

I have one folder where the "raw" mpegs are stored, then a second folder where the saved movies are saved to. When I save them, I usually remove the "garbage" at the end of the file name.

Video Redo is amazingly simple to use. My only complaint is how long the auto commercial detect takes....I can do it manually quicker then the auto feature (12 min for 1/2 hour program). I also don't understand why it takes so long to save the finished project. Does SA detect commercials any faster? Obviously since Video Redo is the "standard" on this forum, you guys must not be put off by the slowness....I may be out of luck. Oh well, still better then what I had!

I think it may be your setup. It literally takes a few minutes for the entire editing process for me. Are you trying to edit a file over a network? I can see how network latency would cause the slow down you are seeing.

No but then YES depend on which one you have, MPEG Video Wizard you can loading BTV cut list XML (chapters.xml) file in the bookmark manager.
Be side AdDetective or Commercial Detection is not 100% and I fine it be waste of my time in long run with VideoReDo and MPEG Video Wizard.

This Yes but not N/A rigth now it under Private Beta Testing.

What SA cuts mayamaniac

There are lot things that VideoReDo can't do that MPEG Video Wizard can but keep mind it depend which womble tools you are ref to.

Someone above said they use ShowAnalyzer to detect the commercials and Videoredo can import it and cut the commercials out based on the SA commercial detection. I suppose this is not possible with womble since it only support XML data from BTV?

I guess the next question is whether SA can output to XML or something Womble supports.

Looking at the VideoRedo site, I don't see options to re-encode. Can it do this?

What I want is to re-encode my mpeg-2 shows to various different formats.

Only options I see for VideoReDo Plus is just saving as MPEG, VOB and TS, no re-encoding.

I use WinAVIVideoConverter to do most of my converting, it can convert to just about any format you can think of - Divx, XVID, WMV, MPG, DVD, RM, VOB... It can also do batch converts.
