Shutting down MVP & Media Extender
Is it possible to shut down a Media Extender (MVP) session without shutting down the main SageTV service? I've been playing with the font settings to find one that works on well for my TV, but it seems I have to shutdown the service to get the MVP to also re-read the .properties file.
Thanks, Rick... p.s. In case you haven't found it the MVP properites files are found in the "clients" folder. |

Did you try unplugging the MVP?

I did unplug it (a couple times). But I didn't check the timestamp on the .properties file to see it SageTV updated it. Guess I didn't expect that to work since just about everywhere else there's always warnings about making sure the client (and/or service) is shutdown before making changes to the .properties.
I'll check that tonight and report back. Thanks, |

fyi
After unplugging the MVP it takes about 30 seconds (on my 700Mhz PII) for the .properties file to be written. |

Any time you exit the main Configuration Wizard screen, the properties are saved. You could try that. I don't know if it will be saved again after unplugging the MVP, though, so you may still have to wait before editing the file.

In a similar vein - I've had a couple of times when performance has been so bad that I've had to restart Sage. While I was using Matt's solution I also used to get lockups etc. but I was able to restart the client without affecting the server in any way.
I have to admit that I'm a little concerned about this architectural change. It does make sense overall I guess but if there's a problem with the MVP it can now affect the server. Anyone else have any thoughts about this? Andy. |

With Matt's latest version my MVP viewing had been rock-solid. But, the reliability with the built-in support has been a concern. Also affecting the WAF.
I received an IM from the wife this morning that she'd gotten a "playback error" and I had to remotely restart the SageTV service to get her (and the kids) back to watching TV. On the plus side I like not having to run the SageClient from the desktop to get the MVP working. |

The first release of the MVP plugin had all sorts of bugs but it was still a great plugin regardless and I used it a lot. The same is true for the new media extender feature. It's not perfect. It clearly has some issues, but it is a good idea and I'm sure it will be improved with future updates.
