channel change takes 20sec...Help

i'm just getting started with sage and i've almost got it setup.
i've got sage version4 installed on my sagetv server machine (in service mode).
i've got a two tuner setup with usb-uirt using 2 zones working.
and i've got two sagetv client machines that connect to the server (although that took alot of tries... i just kept getting a black screen and then the spinning sage icon.... anyway, i think i finally got through that by lots of fresh install & reboot cycles...guessing it was that liscensing issue but not really sure)

anyway.... now my problem is that it take 20sec to change channels from one of the client machines. after entering the channel change, the screen freezes on the previous channel for about 17seconds...then the tv starts to play again and you see the new channel digits begin to be entered on the top of the screen then 3 seconds later it completes the channel change and everthing works fine.

if i'm watching locally on the server machine (with the service mode in background still) everything is ok. 3 sec per channel change.

this feels like its related to the server/client connection issue i was having at the initial setup but i'm really at a loss at this point.

anybody have any ideas??

freddy

server machine has a p4, 1.8ghz, xp, 512 meg, and pvr-350&pvr-usb2
client machines are all xp also

Both

so it makes me think there is something wrong with the way the server connects to remote clients.

again the local sage ui works fine.

could it be a firewall issue??

ok, here's the latest update:

turns out the channels change normally on the cable box (about 3 secs after the channel switch is sent from the sage client machine)

but the screen either goes black or freezes on the client machine for 15 seconds before it starts to play. when it finally starts its delayed, almost like a buffer was built up??

also, now it is intermittently failing to even start streaming and the screen just stays black.

When I demo'd the Client with v2, I too noticed a delay with channel changes, as well as browsing music and pictures. I never investigated further as I just wanted to check it out.

sagetv client starts playing with long delay

everything works fine on the server machine, playback, recording, using two tuners at same time, chaning channels with two sec delay, etc.

the problem is with my sagetv clients. same problem on multiple clients.
here it is:

when i initially click on sage client icon, it starts normally, seems to be progressing well and then seems to get stuck on "SAGETV Connection is initializing". it stays here for approximately 60 seconds!! then it continues to the main menu.

when i go to channel a chnage on the program guide i can see the little REC icon pop-up in the upper right corner instantly. however, it takes 20 seconds to start playing on the client. if i fast forward i can catch back up, ie only 1 sec behind real time. then it works fine from then on. i can pause and time shift no problem. once i change channels i get that annoying 20 sec initial delay again.

network seems to work fine copying files, etc. gigabit hardwired network, with one client wired gigabit and one client a MIMO based laptop.

i really like the software if i can get it to work. But near end of my rope.

any ideas?
freddie

Should it take this long?

I have a gigabit wired network. Anybody else tried gigabit.

also, my channel changes take 20 seconds from the client, while only 3 seconds on the server machine itself. Then, once it finally starts playing on the client, I have been time shifted by 20 seconds, so when i fast forward, i catch up to real time. Its feels like its building too long buffer before it starts playing on the client?? Anybody else have any problems like this?

Are other people having more problems with their client/server connection in version 4, or is it just me?

freddy
