Is the WinTV PVR2 USB known for problems?

This unit is driving me crazy. I am constantly getting "Check to make sure all the drivers are installed correctly" messages from Sage. I check the video source within Sage, and sometimes the screen with be all garbled, or it will say "no signal".

I have tried the original drivers that came with it, and the latest ones from the website.

I can no longer trust my system to record things I want.

Is it just me, or do other people have problem with these external USB tuners?

I also have to reset it a lot.

Thanks.

Are you plugged directly into a USB port off the motherboard or are you plugged into a hub? Make sure you plug it directly into the mb port. I don't think there have really been any issues with the USB PVR2. Maybe your unit is defective?

I have four of them connected and the only problem that I have had is with using the latest drivers from the Hauppauge web site. With those drives, I couldn't get more than two working. I had to "downgrade" to the version on shspvr.com. I made the mistake of thinking the latest would be the best when I built my new server PC. This was not the case

I don't know about everyone else, but I have never had a problem with either of my PVR-USB2 tuners.

Is it connectd to a USB2 port? I've heard of some problems in the past when the USB2 implementation wasn't very good... I don't know if you are able to try it on another system.

Is the system going into standby? I don't do that, so I don't know if that could be an issue.

Does it work consistently with the Hauppauge software? If not, contact Hauppauge to see what they might have to say.

It is USB2, and connected to the port on the motherboard.

One thing I notice, and I don't know if it is operating correctly or not, but the red light on the front of the tuner is sometimes off, and sometimes on. Should it be on all the time? Even when it is off, it still seems to record. But perhaps I have a flakey unit?

Mine worked for about 2 months ...

Hello,
My WintvPvr USB2 worked for about two months and around the same time it died I got a virus. I've tried installing it a twice since, and it works fine until the next reboot when it says it the drivers are installed incorrectly. If anyone finds (knows of a) the solution ... I just haven't wanted to take the WinTV PVR 500 MCE's down with it to try again.

Bobby

I started with the drivers on the CD, and then the .EXE which is the "latest" one on Hauppauge's website. Then I moved onto the SHSPVR.COM one. So far, the SHSPVR one has only crapped out on me once in 2 days, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
