Component Out to SDTV problem
I recently upgraded to a Nvidia 6600 video card with the component out dongle and am trying to connect to a 36" Sony Wega SDTV (Model KV-36FS17). Via the SVideo the picture is ok, but throught the component out the screen is very very blue. I checked to make sure I had the component cable hooked up correctly and everything seems to be in order.
I am not sure what to tweak here. I've read some posts in the forums here discussing the complexity of connecting component out to SDTV due to timing issues or whatever, but I am not sure how to determine what the correct timings should be. I am currently running 640x480@60Hz, using the 81.85 version of the driver. In a separate but somewhat related problem, I also get really bad overscan on the TV. With my old 5200 card, I was able to use the Overscan compensation in the Nvidia control panel to fix this, but the "Overscan Compensation" button on the "TV settings" dialog is disabled with the 6600 card. Does anyone know how to correct this? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

You might want to try using the 480i setting for the component dongle. In the release 75 manual it says that should be an option for the component dongle. This should give you a windows desktop of 720 x 480 interlaced.

This might sound really dumb, but you may also want to check to make sure you are using a fairly high quality cable. I don't mean go out and buy a monster component cable, but the first time I ever tried to hook up component output to a tv (from a dvd player to a 20 inch samsung I picked up), I tried just using a cheap cpmposite set of cables and it caused my screen to be really red. I switched over to a higher quality set of composite (yes composite it realy doesn't matter) and fixed the problem right away.

I think the cable is good b/c I swapped it with my DVD player and it looked fine.
When I initially set up the card, I had the computer plugged into my desktop monitor (a flat panel) via the VGA port and I wonder if when I moved the computer over to the TV if it wasn't confused into thinking I still had it hooked up to the panel and thus the timings or whatever were off somehow. I uninstalled and reinstalled the nvidia driver and now everything looks good (although I have a slight underscan which I can't get rid of). I notice now that the display type is set to SDTV 480i, which is what jptaz had suggested. Thanks for the help guys! Hopefully everything is set for now. |

Actually, the 81.85 driver may be the problem. When I reinstalled, I used the driver off the Gigabyte supplied CD, which was 77.72. When I saw that worked, I decided to upgrade to 81.85 and the blue screen problem came back. Reverting to 77.72 fixed the problem again, so I am going to stay with that version of the driver.
Thanks again for your help! |

There's 81.87 on nVIDIA's FTP if you want to give that a try.
