theatre 550 pci express

I am considering buying one of these for use with sage

http://www.powercolor.com/global/pro...0pro_pcie.html

According to the main web page Sage supports the theatre 550 chipset - will the pci express version be supported as well? Will it require an update or will it be supported by the current version?

thanks

I don't think a lot (if any) users are familiar with this. Maybe email Sage support?

I'm 99% sure that all the 550 PCIe should work out the boxs in SageTV as long ATI didn't change the DirectShow Interface by keeping the same main Stardard PCI DirectShow Interface.
By the way newegg.com has them PowerColor T55E-P03 Theater 550 PRO PCI-Express x1
Haupaugge HVR 1100 no it need support DVB card and as for the 1300 this kind of YES S-Video, Composite input and NO to DVB Tuner, but it all depnd on DirectShow Interface and Drivers.

sadly I live in the UK so I can't get one from newegg. If I did get an american capture card would it work in the UK (PAL) or would it only work with an NTSC source?

PCIe is supposed to be backward compatible/tranparent to software, so it should work.

Sage Support don't give good news on the HVR-1300:
****************************************
Unfortunately, that capture device is not supported. Here is a list of
currently supported cards. http://www.sage.tv/requirements.html

I also don't know if/ when it will be supported.
****************************************

Does Sage support *any* DVB cards?

Rgds,
Rick

Rick as I said the 1300 may work with SageTV just not the Tuner part of it being it is base on DVB Stream where Analog S-Video/Composite input is conn to a Hardware Encoder which is the very some one found on 150, 250 and 500 card know as Conexant CX23416 but also as I said it all depnd on DirectShow Interface and Drivers for the 1300 and if look at the card it look very much like the reference design "Blackbird" by Conexant but as one more chip.

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand the answer! I'm a bit of a noob at this stuff. Are you saying that the hardware encoder isn't used with the tuner on the 1300? Because on Hauppauge's page it says:
"Record analogue or digital TV to your PC’s hard disk using the built-in high performance hardware MPEG encoder!"

Or are you just saying that Sage supports the S-Video etc. but just doesn't ever support DVB feeds? Sorry for being daft!

Thanks,
Rick

Digital TV doesn't require encoding since it's broadcast as an MPEG-2 stream. And yes, Sage doesn't currently support DVB.

So when I have my freeview box, scart out to S-Video on a 350 card, we're going digital-analogue-digital?

And using like a Nova-T card on PCI with GBPVR, you don't need a hardware encoder at all? It can record directly?

Every day I realise how little I know!

There is a thread for BDA DVB Network Encoder, but I have no idea whether it can be used for what you are talking about... I'm just poiting it out as something to look into.

Bu**er me, I'm a bit of a geek, but that lot makes no sense to me!

Looks like I need to stick to analogue to use Sage...but doesn't it seem weird that Sage doesn't use something as common as a DVB card, when it has to make sense to skip the analogue stage?

DVB, HDTV, Sat have few diff type data transmission which are close to MPEG-2 but not common stardard MPEG-2 stream and some case it an encrypted data transmission.
Yes that rigth digital-analogue-digital when ref to DVB, HDTV, DTV, Satellite or Digital Cable.
