whats the upgrade policy
Hi,
I'm about to buy, but I read (somewhere) your putting out a new release soon. What is the upgrade policy? Free? Free for next release? Thanks! |

I know its probly a bit early for this but...
what about Sage Studio, do i buy SageTv now? or wait until Studio comes out, from the features request it definitely sounds like something i would want. is it going to be out soon? will freytechnologies offer a cheaper price to those who already have sagetv? is it meant to be a replacement for sagetv or a totally new product? |

I understand your reservation. I would be in the same boat too if I were you. I am actually not too happy with the way I have to buy all of these different applications to make one complete solution. The competitors don't make you do that. If I have to again buy another application when Sage Studio comes out I will not be a happy customer. I do believe that Sage is better than its competition, but not 3 or 4 times better (that is the potential total cost). I could have gotten a ReplayTV for $150 after rebates here locally. When I started Sage, $59 was cheaper. Now $110 into it with the clients I am getting close to that price. I have more functionality and expandability but this is software only.
My hopes are that users of plain SageTV will at least be able to load the "themes" created in Studio. If cost is no concern got for it. I am very happy with SageTV. Good luck. |

I'm hoping that Sage Studio is at no extra cost as well. I've bought SageTV and 2 SageTV clients. That's $120US or almost $180 Canadian dollars. Add the two Hauppauge PVR 250's (about $400 Canadian) that I bought as well and we're talking almost $600 Canadian for recording shows. That doesn't include the cost of the PC itself (however I had this already so it's not fair to include it's cost). Oh and I forgot the 120Gb hard drive I bought to add to my existing system for storage of recorded shows (about $120US).
So for about $500US or around $750 Canadian I have a dual tuner PVR with space for about 60 hours of programming at reasonable quality. I think that it was money well spent, given the quality, flexibiltiy ands functionality of the software. I love SageTV, and more importantly, my wife loves it as well. However, at this moment, I think I've exhausted my PVR budget for this year. If Sage Studio has an upgrade fee, then I'll postpone purchasing it for at least a year and live with SageTV 1.4.8 in the meanwhile. However, I COULD be encouraged to shell out some more cash if Sage Studio comes with both of the following things: 1) Support for my ATI All-In-Wonder 8500 card (so I can achieve a triple tuner system without additional hardware cost). Big bonus here for supporting the ATI software encoder. 2) Canadian listings download service. XMLTV works but I'd rather have an "official" download service which saves me from having to constantly react to Zap2it site changes. Regards Lester

Well, I decided to go a head and take the plunge to buy Sage TV and the Client. Actually, I just finished the web transaction. I just hope that the upgrade path to Sage Studio will be fair.
Thanks,
