Question "No Disk" error in Sage 4 client

Hey guys -

I recently (yesterday) upgraded from 2.2.7 to 4.0. This evening I started getting some windows error dialog windows popping up every time I'd hit pretty much any navigation button (menu, guide, etc.). The error dialog was titled SageTVClient.exe: No Disk or something like that and was complaining about there being no disk in the dvd drive. I restarted the client machine and now cannot duplicate the problem. Anyone else seen this or have any info?

Here's my environment:
SageTV Server 4.0 on Win2k -- jdk 1.5.0_03
SageTV Client 4.0 on Win2k -- jdk 1.4.2
Sage MC 16x9 v5_8

I have it show up for me every once in a while. I think it has usually occurred when I have or had DVDs in that drive for ripping (I think). This has happen since 2.x for me.

Hm - seeing something like that when trying to watch a recording - but only with the one client that I upgraded (from 2.2.8) from a network place folder. I figured must have something to do with that and installed the other clients after I copied the setup file down to the clients hard drive. Those are fine.

However, that first client I upgraded still has the problem. A 'repair' installation from a local setup file did not fix it. Right now, I do not feel like trying a complete re-install - since I don't know what key that box is using - or will the license key stay in the registry?

I get this all the time. The problem happens for me when I had a dvd in the drive and removed it, but windows explorer still thinks there is a disc in the drive (still shows the disc title when you get your drive listing). Doesn't matter if the sage client was open at the time or not. As long as windows thinks there is a disc in the drive and there isn't, you get the warning message.

Jeraden - I have the exact same issue. The current fix I use is a reboot of the client. Anyone else have a way of clearing this without requiring a reboot?

I have to resolve this by rebooting the client as well. Odd, this never happened to me until I upgraded to V4...

No disk error on client

I just installed the client on one of my boxes and everytime I go to select a program it comes up with an error with something like "No disk". I have to hit cancel before the program will start playing. I tried setting DVD drive to "no" - didn't work. I tried placing a DVD in the tray and that seemed to work until I restarted the client with the disk. This is pretty frustrating to say the least. I actually have to get up and walk ten feet to hit cancel.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

I think it's looking for the media files locally. I had this problem when setting up my client and I'm trying to remember what fixed it. I think using UNC paths did it. Try sharing the folder your Server is saving files in and set your import paths as \\server\folder instead of D:\folder.

Did ya follow that?

I'm not sure if that is what fixed it for me but I think that was it. The client is looking for media at "D:\..." and it tries to read your DVD-Drive. But I'm no expert I'm just learning too so if someone with more experience steps up just ignore what I've said here

There are some older posts about it above. The client shouldn't have to use UNC paths, since it streams through the server. UNC paths for client access to files is mostly used for something like comskip that needs to be able to get to the files directly.

I don't know why the client would be trying to access the DVD drive if you aren't playing a DVD. You could try getting rid of the properties file and its autobackup & reconfigure the client, but it sounds like there is something in Windows that thinks it should be finding a disk there.

maybe try disabling the automatic import scan that sagetv does(somewhere in the properties file, can't remeber exact line)???? I only manually do the import scan in SETUP because I have a removeable drive with music (that gets connected and unconnected randomly) and I figure it prevents any stuttering while watching video/dvd. who knows??

I had the same issue and found that changing my DVD drive letter on the client to another drive letter (I chose J solved the problem. The client only had one Hard Drive so the DVD drive was D: and the server has a number of drive letters, including D: of course. Once I set the DVD drive on the client to J: I have not had this issue.

bug support submitted

All,

I have submitted bug report to Sage regarding this, as I can re-create it easily. My steps are

sage client is not running
install a game / play dvd via nvidia dvd/ listen to cd etc
remove disk from drive (drive shows as empty in windows explorer)
start sage client
go to sage recordings
cursor around to select a recording
no disk error appears and keeps appearing
only way to clear is a reboot of the client (starting and stopping sage client does not do the trick)

If I get a fix/workaround I will post it to this thread.
