Question Are animated gifs supported in Studio?

I was working to add a page with weather related images such as animated radar and satellite loop. I was happy to see that a studio image can directly use a URL source, but when specifying an animated gif it only shows as static. I have seen animated gifs displayed on the WRS stvi.

So how does one display an animated gif?

I believe there may be a way to make an animated gif animate in Studio, but WRS actually takes apart animated GIFs (parses them into multiple GIFs) and then plays them back frame by frame.

SageTV doesn't natively support rendering of animated GIFs.

salsbst, is that code on sourceforge for breaking apart animated GIFs? I was looking for something to do that awhile ago so we could put animated GIF support in the core. (just send me an email if it is)

I sent this:

This project contains the parser:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gif-anim-parser

This portion of the sageplugins project contains the rendering code:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.p...t-suite/rotan/ (rotan stands for rotating animated images).

Let me know if you need any help navigating. The code is almost completely devoid of documentation

Any chance we may see this is an upcoming release?
