Well I see the download at
http://www.sagetv.com/betadownload.html

In the new manual under Version History this is the single bullet for version 4.0

Enable the Customize command, which opens SageTV Studio for live editting of the currently loaded STV. See Appendix L SageTV Studeo for more information about Studio. (Note that SageTV Studio is not available during a trial period.

There is no Windows release of Version 3. All the features you were testing in V3 are in V4 and we've also added the Studio for the V4 platform.

Version 4 is now the current release, there will be no final release of version 3 since we've now added the Studio.

Also, unicode support has been in the application for quite some time now so Hebrew should be supported. If you need support, please go to www.sagetv.com/support.html for your options.

Can we upgrade from 3.0.14 to 4.0 and what's difference other than adding studio?

V4 = V3 + Studio.

The number change is (I assume) due to the fact that adding Studio is a rather major change, even if the underlying SageTV functionality is the same.

Thanks Stanger89. So, can I safely upgrade from 3.x to 4.0?

I'm looking for some information. I am not currently a SageTV user but v4 and Studio look very interesting.

Here's what I want to do: 2- Sat(pvr-250) tuners and 2-HD tuners(Fusion5), I assume SageTv can do that.

I also keep a collection of divx encoded movies on a server and I currently use myHTPC as a front end.

My question: could I now use Studio to access the divx movies and access everything from Sage interface?

Thanks for the help,
Clay

You can do all that without Studio.

You've been able to do this for a while with some of the custom STVs out there (even with the standard STV you can list them).

If you already use DVD Profiler for metadata, you can export that xml file like you're used to doing, and instead of using DVDPro2MY, you can use Stanger's cool Data Import to get the data into SageTV.

I just upgraded form Rev3.14 to Rev4 with no uninstall and it works fine.

What I saw different:

1. the startup splash screen is changed.
2. VMR and VMR FSE work for me now on both server and client.
3. music player still does not allow you to play an entire album.
4. HDTV playback is improved. I used to get stutters every once in a while on my ATI x550 PCI-E card, and these are gone.

Other than that it was painless and easy.

My guess is that the version number change is due to competition with BeyondTV. Since BTV is working on version 4.x with HD support, SageTV also with HD support has to be version 4.x too just to make it seem that they are both are on the same level, its a marketing thing more than anything else. The same thing happened to the Xbox versus Playstation. For the next xbox, instead of calling it Xbox 2, they called it Xbox 360 because is sounds better when compare to the Playstation 3, which is what it will be competing against. Another good example with marketing people playing with numbers is AMD vs. intel. Where AMD uses speed ratings to label their chips instead of actually gigahertz like intel does. (ie. Athlon 3200 = 2.163ghz, and not 3.2ghz)

But as a SageTV user, I'm just glad Studio is released. can't wait to try it later on tonight.
