Talking pci-e capture cards?

Does anyone know if there are pci-e capture cards on the horizon (Hauppauge etc.)? I am getting ready to build a new box and pci express seems to be the dominant system in many new motherboards. I know that some mb's have both but usually only 2 pci slots. Thanks,
Randy

You don't need the bandwidth of PCI-E. My guess is that most of the vendors will focus on USB2, since it will provide compatibility on all PC platforms (and on some on-PC ones as well). Unfortunately, the USB2 encoders cost more

PCI-E is too new for vendors to care about it yet, not enough PCs out there with it yet. I think the only things being made for PCI-E so far are Video cards and Raid controllers, with sound cards and network cards on the horizon.

I'd bet that by the time enough people have computers with PCI-E they will be ready to implement cable card anyway. If you are worried about using up multiple PCI slots then just get a PVR-500 - 1 slot 2 tuners. The other option is to just spec out a new system that has more then 2 PCI slots, which most standard atx mobos have.

Au contraire, I just read about an upcoming dual-tuner PCI-E card at HTPCNews.com. I think it was by AverMedia or maybe Nvidia. I didn't pay much attention to the post so that's all I remember.

Do you remember where you read this at HTPCnews.com?

The new nVidia cards are due out in a few weeks, although I'm not sure if they are PCI-e.

It is an AverMedia card but it looks like it is special purpose for MCE and Intel's VIIV processor (PCI-e X16 and works in conjunction with an Intel Graphics chipset) so I'm not sure if it would serve our purpose w/ Sage.

So, it appears that the wait is back on. I probably should have found the post and read it more closely before mentioning it.

Smile

Thanks for all the replies everyone--I'll just make sure I have enough PCI slots and maybe go with a dual-tuner card. Thanks,
Randy

ATI's new TV Wonder Elite supports PCI Express and plain old PCI.
