Sage Studio
Will this be an additional purchase for SageTV owners?

We haven't yet worked out how we are going to handle pricing and availability for the Studio version. We plan on making a formal announcement once we get further down the road in September.

You guys are going to get me killed by my wife. I had just about convinced her to buy a client license while they are on sale. Now with the Studio version potentially costing more she'll hammer me if I buy a client. Could you please at least offer a package deal(client with studio) if you are going to charge for the Studio version. Sigh, I guess I won't be getting that client license just yet.

Umm.... this conversation originally occurred last August... so Dan's post isn't a new comment/announcement.
Edit: This post was in reply to a post from ThatGuy, which he subsequently deleted. (See his post below.) - Andy

Here is the last actual post from Dan on the issue.
http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...5731#post45731 BTW, I would recommend that they charge for it in my own opinion . |

About charging money for it, that's all well and good except that the rest of us don't really know what it is or what it functionality it provides.
Really, why all of the cloak and dagger about the features that Studio will provide? Something having to do with plug-ins? Let me extrapolate based upon the currently released STVs out there:
For that matter, they ought to have a fan/3rd party plugin page on their website to draw attention to some of the things that people have down to improve the product. It would provide them more good press and hopefully increase their sales. |

This is all planned. The problem is that right now as you can see only COMPLETE STV's are being released. The version of Studio they want to put on the public is a version that allows a single item/menu to be included without the user needing to load up an entire application. A truly plug-in architecture.

Understood. For example, I wouldn't have to use Maldude but could instead use portions of your's and Malore's STV's without the entirety.
In other words, Frey is probably trying to factor out the pieces of the STV into distinct classes (welcome to Object Oriented Design class, folks ) and formulate it into a single API that they can then wrap in Studio. Boy, I wish that the license didn't preclude decompiling the code. It would be amusing to peek through the guts.

It appears I made a very honest mistake. I did not realize Dan's post was from last year, case and point. But either way it was an honest mistake. I have deleted my other thread as to not further the confusion.
