Play time not adjusted for padding

Ok I just noticed this with 3.0.7 (sorry have not upgraded to 3.0.11 yet). If I have say a football game and I add an extra hour to the record time, the time in the play bar only shows the original time. Once you get to the end of the original time it continues to play, however a big issue with this is if you stop the game AFTER the original time SageTV loses its position and you have to FF back to where you were.

Padding isn't show in the time bar, only the scheduled airtime. That's how Sage has always worked, at least since I started using it which was v2.2.

Well it causes a bug to happen. So it should be fixed IMHO.

Right -- SageTV has not shown the padding as part of the time bar all the way up through v3.0.11. I probably shouldn't say anything, but since not seeing the padded areas has confused/bothered people for so long... just wait for the next beta release.

And don't bother filing a bug report for the watched position not being remembered when it was stopped while in the padded area -- that's known too.

I'm a relatively new SageTV user (since only 3.0.7), but this makes me wonder if a couple of things that bothered me are just things people accept.

For example, when you're in full screen mode, the main menu choice at the bottom is "sleep" rather than "exit." Sleep is useless for people running service mode, so it seems like we should have a choice of menu items for that (or that it should recognize you're running in service mode and make exit the option).

Or another. When you right click on a running video, the bottom choice is "toggle" full screen mode. When you click that, the menu doesn't go away. You have to go up and hit cancel, as if the program thinks you're going to want to go back and forth.

Overall I'm really impressed with the interface. I'm used to Tivo, and it's on par with Tivo, which really surprises me. So the few little things that bug me aren't that major. But it would be nice if they would be changed. They don't seem like tough things to do.

Not remembering where you stopped at is a bug, but not showing the padding isn't a bug. :P

Personally I prefer not seeing the padding. I just hope enough people haven't complained about it and I have to see the padding included in future releases.

What reason would you have against seeing the padding?

I can see it both ways, on the one hand, padding shouldn't be part of the show (it's a "just in case" thing), so it shouldn't be included.

OTOH, it's part of the recording, so...

Maybe if it were displayed "outside" the timebar to indicate it's not "part of the show".

Like stranger said it's not part of the show it's a just in case thing. 99% of everything I watch plays within the scheduled time.

If it can be displayed where the timebar begins at a negative value to include the start padding and the recording actually starts playing back at 0 (the scheduled start time) and shows the scheduled end time of the show in the timebar it would be ok. Ideally the padding would also be a different color on the timebar.

Those ideas I can understand. But not accounting for it at all in the timebar would just be confusing to the user.

I personally rarely ever use padding, only for sporting events and I only record a few of those. But when I do use it in those cases it is almost ALWAYS used cause college football games are never alloted enough time.

I ALWAYS have to use padding
for some channels, for late-night showings, I have to add as much as +30 mins (and I still sometimes miss endings)..

Same in my country. A small question I always wanted to ask about padding:

There is this feature "auto-padding" in some STVs. This works all perfectly when scheduling recordings on a sage server. However, if I schedule my shows on one of my sage clients, the "auto-padding" setting is ignored, so i have to set the padding for each recording...which is a pain in the a** because of the inaccuracy of the program data. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Thx

I wrote the auto-padding import

The solution is to add the auto-padding import to the client as well -- It is a client-based feature that adds the padding when the user on the client requests the recording.

Great nielm, never thought it could be fixed so easily. Thanks a lot.
