MVP screwed up Sage
I bought one of the MVP's from Radio Shack for $40. Downloaded the latest Hauppauge MVP software and installed it on the same PC I was using with Sage. During the install it said one of my Hauppauge files were out of date and would only continue if I let it replace the file.
Well, now MVP doesn't work, and Sage only gives me a black screen when viewing a Live TV channel (no sound either). I unistalled MVP, tried a 'repair' of Sage - that didn't work. I uninstalled Sage then reinstalled it - same problem. The Sage version I am using is 2.2.8 and my PC has a PVR-250MCE card installed. Been working great for about 2 years now until tonight. Question: - Can I not run the Hauppauge MVP software along with Sage on the same machine? - How can I fix Sage to work again? TIA Dave (really bummed) |

Did you:
1. Read the documentation. 2. Uninstall the Hauppague software for the MVP. 3. Install Sage TV client in a different directory or just use the Sage TV server install as the client. 4. Did you install the Sage MVP client to the Sage TV or Sage client directory. 5. Read the documentation Gerry

2. Yes, I've completely uninstalled the Hauppauge software for the MVP 3. I reinstalled Sage TV client to the same default directory as it was in before 4. No - I was going to use the MVP software that came with the unit and see how I liked that. 5. For the MVP, yes. From your questions I gather that I absolutely cannot use Hauppauge's MVP software on a PC that is also running Sage but instead must use the Sage MVP client to get ANYTHING to work ? Is this right? Right now I'm just trying to get back to where I was - SageTV working without any of the MVP stuff installed. This is what I've tried since posting my original message. - downloaded the latest PVR250 drivers from Hauppauge - Ran HWclear to remove all the PVR250 drivers, then rebooted - PC came up and found the 'new device', I pointed it to the folder I downloaded the drivers to - I then ran the driver update software from Hauppauge. - Rebooted, started up Sage and still I get only a black screen and no audio. My USBIRT works fine, the HD is capturing my shows (all black though), Sage isn't complaining. What to try next? |

If nothing else works you can always us the TIA restore disk to get you back to a virgin system. But you will lose all your recordings and settings.............Yep, using the restore disk sucks big time
Have you tried WinXP restore back to a working date ? Last edited by Fluffdaddy; 09-12-2005 at 09:23 AM. |

I'm running Win2K, no restore point to go back to.
I've been happy tootling along until now. Sage has been rock stable - so easy to initially setup, running great 24/7, no need to learn about all of its inner workings - it did what I needed! Got the entire Tour de France this year without a hiccup. I got the MVP so I could watch shows on the TV in the other end of the house without burning a show to DVD and then walking over. Too many piddly shows that I'd only watch once. It just seems like I should be able to undo what I did without going through a full reinstall. Thanks for the help. Keep the tips coming. Dave |

And like was said before.. Read the documentation. A couple of times. Not to be a smart A#$ but the MVP client wants everything to go in the right place. Randy |

I ran into the same problem, black screeen, no audio. MVP stuff jacked my Sage setup. (BTW - MVP for sale!)
I had to uninstall the Sage Client and Sage server (was trying it on same machine, which apparently CAN be done), then reinstalled server only. After that I replaced the Sage directory with a backup copy. Sage was still broken when trying to run as a service, so I then reinstalled again with the Repair option. Working fine now after a couple reboots. On a pure Client-only setup I also got the black screen thing after doing the MVP plugins, etc. Deleted SageClient.Properties file then restarted Sage. That got Sage Client working again. Got MVP to the point where it would display Sage interface on the TV, but video still would not play back. I am sure I can beat this thing into submission, but after wasting a whole Sunday recovering from this attempt, I am over it. Goodbye MVP. |

Heya,
I've got the mediaMVP SageTV client working just great on my main SaveTV box. I had to install the client to a different directory, thus make sure you are not overlaying the main SageTV install on this step. Between that and InsertHere's suggestion I hope things work out. It should work without a hitch. I even got the MVP SageTV client to work with Cayars stuff! Hope this helps, RedR |

Yeah but at this point the poor guy just wants a working Sagetv again
Try: 1.completely uninstalling the sagetv and MVP software 2. Manually delete sagetv and MVP folders......if need be 3. Reinstalled SageTV . This have always got me a good working Sagetv install. Then you can go from there. Last edited by Fluffdaddy; 09-12-2005 at 12:44 PM. |

What file said it was out of date?
The behaiver of Sage does sound exactly like what normally happens on the PC running sage MVP Client. Is your MVP hooked up through a switch, straight cable or crossover cable? Please give details regarding your setup, I can't tell if you have just a sage server or a sage server and a client running. |

Yes, my MVP is hooked up to a switch, the switch is auto-negotiating so it correctly figures out if it should be straight or crossover, but the cable is straight anyways. Right now I could care less about the MVP, I'm just trying to get Sage back up. I'm a bit 'green' on the terminology but in the background I have the Sage Service control running and started, and I'm trying to view live TV using the Sage TV client (?). The files it is recording are blank too. No complaints about not being able to access anything. Just got home from work so I'll be trying to do a clean install of Sage and see if that fixes the problem. Dave |

Getting closer! Now I have sound when viewing but no picture. The file saved to the HD is complete though with sound AND video.
To get to this point I - - went in and disabled the loading of SAGE at bootup - completely uninstalled SAGE, moved the folders somewhere else - completely uninstalled the Hauppauge PVR250 drivers - rebooted - reloaded the Hauppauge PVR250 drivers - reloaded SAGE from the 2.2.8 setup release (fresh install - didn't just copy back the folders) - reset up the configuration. Now I just have to figure out why I cannot get the video to display when watching LIVE. |
