HDTV Playback, DVXA, VMR9, Overlay & FSE... Oh My

So, to those of you who have HDTV working successfully I pose the question:-

What settings do you use with which graphics card, and how are your results?

I'm having some major issues getting it to work in a stable manner and I'm looking to see what others have worked out in an effort to better understand where I'm going wrong (if indeed I am, as opposed to my System not being up to it).

My basic understanding that DVXA needs to be enabled (how do I tell?), and that you need to be running a reasonably chunky graphics card.

In my case I've eliminated as many bottlenecks as I can think of:- Disk (RAID0, 64K clusters, 16MB cache per disk, 100MB/sec read write), CPU (Athlon 3200+), RAM 1GB of DDR400, and I thought the graphics card Nvidia 6600GT would be cool according to a bunch of suff I read.

My performance still blows though, no matter what I do..

So how do YOU do it?

You using VMR9 or Overlay. What decoder are you using? I can only get Overlay to work smoothly in Sage beta right now. Outside of Sage I get smooth HD on cards from a 6200, to an ATI 9600. Seems much more CPU dependant than GPU. Your CPU and GPU should be fine. Try and get it going outside of Sage to confirm if you have a system problem or if it is a Sage beta problem.

Heyas,

Tried VMR9 but was unplayable. Currently using overlay but MY CPU looks really high and I get juddery playback. Smooth for a couple of seconds, then jusdders for a bit, and then smooth again. Other times it just judders so badly I don't even get sound.

Currently on Overlay with Nvidia decoders..

Setup works fine when I play the exact same HiDEF files back with WMP...

I'm soooo close to having this work and High WAF.. Unfortunately close doesn't cut it around here.. :-(

Do a DXDiag report and submit to frey as a bug. Beta is beta but you may have something to help them get some bugs fixed.

Make sure you have Hardware Accelleration checked in the Nvidia control panel(Play an MPEG2 Based file with Windows Media Player and you should see the Nvidia icon appear at bottom right of the taskbar). Also make sure it's on in Sage(In Detailed Settings--Advanced).
I have perfectly smooth playback with Overlay and Hardware Accelleration on my 3ghz client box with a Radeon 9800 Pro
Also make sure you have set your registry setting of the MPEG Demux Buffers to 64
