PVR-250 for $99 at Circuit City this week

Just saw this morning that the Hauppauge PVR-250 cards are available this week at Circuit City for $99 (after rebates I'm assuming).

Yeah, can't tell. I picked up a new PVR250 from CC this week, got the silver remote... But it is luck of the draw.

I got a silver remote with an older version card (15 chip with heatsink.) Doesn't seem to want to play nice with my existing card (which is a 16 chip) so back it goes tomorrow. I am going to see if they will let me open a box in store to try and get a V16 board.

I'm thinking about picking up a couple of these for a 2-tuner project. The difference in the remote is obvious, but how do you determine the V15 or V16 chip? I'm assuming it's marked on the board or IC somewhere, but would like to know before I snag 'em. Probably not a big deal to run two different ones, but it sounds like it would be easier with 2 of the same!

If you want to save more money and don't need a remote, you might want to look at the Hauppauge Freestyle card. I won't swear to this, but it seems to be a PVR-250 without the remote control or remote control input. The cheapest place I've found it is $90 shipped at Z-Buy (http://www.z-buy.com/product.asp?item=VG-WINTVPP2). Newegg also sells it. I think this would be a cheaper solution for multiple tuner systems, even if you want the PVR-250 for the remote functionality.

If you haven't seen one or the other the easiest way to tell is the older card has a heatsink on the encoding chip and the new one doesn't. The new also has a white conector receptical (10 or 13 pin) along the top of the card and is shorter.

Well went out and bought one got the silver remote on from what it sounds like the V15 chip Nice sized heatsink on the encoder.

And after searching around some found out how to fix that annoying powerbutton sage sleep problem.
