tuning problem!!! i have antenna/cable coming from the same source!

hi there,

i have a little tuning problem. i live in switzerland and in my appartment the owners created their own channel mix. there are antenna and cable channels coming from the same source (through the same cable).
however, in sage i have only 2 options to scan for channels: either i use my tv-tuner for antenna or for cable.
if i chose antenna, i get many channels, but also a lot of channels are missing which are in the cable tuning and vice versa.
same in wintv.

how can i get all the channels without doing a lot manually?

btw: i also have a list with all the channels and their corresponding frequencies.

thank you very much,

simon

it's a rather strange problem... Could you give some greater detail as to how the "mix" is achieved and how you watch it normally without sage? Then it might clear up a few things and allow people to gain some insight into how they might be able to help make sage work with it.

if you have to use a set top box for this mix then your best option is to plug the a/v cables from the box into the a/v ports of your capture card and also use a splitter and send a raw coax cable to the f-connector of the card.

if you can setup like this you will then be able to map channel lineups for each connection and have them appear as one channel list. most satellite tv users will have a similar setup when their local channels are by over the air antenna rather than from the satellite feed.

I remember some threads a long time ago about trying to configure multiple sources (& thus different lineups) on the same capture device input, but I couldn't find anything using the forum's search. If no one else remembers the details, try contacting tech support. I don't remember how successful the mentioned 'trick' was, though.

what i described above worked well for me when i used directv and an OTA antenna. what didn't work so well was having directv and comcast cable tuned into the same capture card.

from a channel surfing standpoint it was perfect. where it fell short was if you wanted, say a college football game, to record from the satellite but instead it would record from a cable channel. the easy fix for this was to disable all the overlap channels (same channels) which i didn't need to see from my cable tv lineup.

as stated previously though this was all possible only because i was using an STB to tune the satellite channels.

If I understand you correctly, though, you are able to use 2 different input types: coax + svideo, for example. I think the problem here is that both sources are coming from a single coax line. But I've been reading posts a little too quickly lately.

you're reading it right, andy, i was just kind of hoping in his setup that might include a STB. if not then he should be able to accomplish the same result if he maybe uses a vcr to provide a composite video/stereo audio output.
