plextor convertx audio video sync

I have a dedicated sage server in the basement with 2 pvr150 cards and a plextor convertx usb. All played thru a dedicated htpc in the living room. The hauppauge are using digital cable boxes, the plextor analog cable using its built in coax tuner. The hauppauge cards work beautifully the picture quality is better than I could ever get with my standalone tivo or directivo. The plextor has terrible audio / video sync issues. The audio and video drift in and out of sync throughout recordings. Have any of you experienced this and or have any ideas to rectify? I have reinstalled the driver, removed and reconfigured the device in sage, etc, etc all the normal troubleshooting things. I currently have the plextor removed as a source for sage.

what are the specs on the pc? Are you sure it's usb2 HIGH SPEED capable? What's the cpu usage looking like when the plextor is recording? Can you record using another piece of software with the plextor without the same issues?

Lotta variables to look at there.

The audio/video sync issue with the Plextor ConvertX have been mentioned before. I would contact SageTV tech support to see what the status is. It was also mentioned in this thread, which also leads to another thread. There might be a work-around by setting the mmc/enable_mpeg4_timeshifting=false property.

Andy-

As always thanks for the quick reply. After reading thru the other threads you mentioned (I had never gone to the end of the thread as I never saw stuck frames). Since it appears that I am not the only one seeing this, I will quit chasing my tail trying to resolve it and wait for a fix.

Plextor TV402U Audio to Video sync issues

Check my post at http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12285 regarding this subject. I have never been able to resolve many issues including the video to audio sync problems ... and I'm having the same problems in 3.0.7

I've never recorded in .avi but I know when I first played back downloaded .avi files the audio was out of sync. All I had to do was change the audio decoder I was using to the directshow one and it cleared my problem right up. Of course I have no idea if you've tried that already or if it would even help.

I'm not sure how to change the decoder ... do you mean on the playback side?
