Scheduling Favorites

I'm having difficulty wrapping my pea size brain around this one. I have used DirecTiVo for a while now and so this Sage business is a bit different for me (in a good way of'course . I am wondering how this favorites scheduling affects the "priority" default.

I know favorites are at the top of the priority list from intelligent recordings but how does this work when "auto delete" is enabled? Is it ok to leave it there? What about "keep at most" set to "all". Is that dangerous? How does "keep at most/all" change the priority list when the disk gets full?

Most of this should be covered starting on p. 60 in the v2.2 PDF manual, found in your SageTV directory, with the deletion priority found on p. 189.

p. 61 -- that just tells SageTV whether it is allowed to automatically delete a show as needed. If you don't let a show be automatically deleted, you will have to delete it at some point.

It all comes down to the AutoDelete setting. If more space is needed, but ALL the recordings are either Manual Recordings or Favorites that have AutoDelete turned off (neither of which can be deleted unless the user chooses to do so via the Delete option), then SageTV simply won't be able to free up more space and won't be able to record. You'' have to watch some of those "manual delete only" shows and delete them.

Is that any clearer?

I think the easiest way would be to set auto delete to Disabled. That way if disk space does get low, it wont delete something you wanted to keep. Favorites are the second highest on the priority list i think with Manual recordings being first. It would delete a lot of other stuff before it deleted the favorites even if auto delete was enabled.

based on your wiki entry:
So, that leaves the question of recording priority... From highest to lowest priority:

  1. Manual Recordings
  2. Favorites (Am I right to assume "oldest first" here?)
  3. Intelligent Recordings
  4. Watched Shows
  5. Live TV
  6. Don't Like

So basically "auto delete" set to "yes" or "on" which is the default means that the recording priority stays the same. Am I correct?

Is there a way to re-set the "keep at most" (default setting is "all") and change the default to something other than "all"?

Also, Can I re-set the default to "first run only" as well?

Thanks deadtoaster2, I think you are right.... I am wondering now about changing the default settings? Specifically, I would like to change "keep at most" to a number instead of "all" and also to record "first run only" by default.

I don't really have any wiki entries. The existing FAQs were copied to the wiki, but I update the FAQ posts on this forum from time to time. (See the FAQ link in my sig lines.) But, the PDF manual should have a bit more detail on this, so I suggest you check it out -- your "oldest first" question was already covered there at the bottom of p. 189.

If I understand your question, then yes. But that list is for when "all other things are equal", so a watched Fav should then have a lower priority, since watched shows can be deleted to make room for new shows. (But, again: Manual Recordings and non-AutoDelete Favs cannot be auto deleted at all, thus a Fav w/AutoDelete off is the same as category 1 in that list.)

No, the default Fav settings are not configurable currently.

Sorry for asking for something already in the doc That's not good. Appreciate the answer about default settings. That's too bad. Hopefully that will change down the road. Would make it easier for the wife I think. Thanks again Andy. You are such a big help in here.

If you want to see easily what will get deleted first, go to Sage Recordings; set Sort mode to Intelligent; Grouping None. The shows at the bottom of the list will be deleted first (unless they are faves with auto-delete off)...
