Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 at Circuit City for $60 (150 compared to 250?)

Circuit City has a deal on the 150 here. Can this be used with the PVR-250 easily with no hassles/compatability problems? Does it do hardware encoding like the 250? I just want to make sure my super slow system can run both ok.
Thanks

The 150 is a hardware encoder; see Hauppauge's 150 info page or their PVR product comparison.

Among other comparisions on this forum is this one: WinTV 150 vs 250/350. (I searched for '150 250'.)

I have one of these and I can't understand for the life of me why it is so cheap (even at $99.00) and it blows away the video quality of a 150 or 250... I mean you can not see any artifacts or anything.. it looks like pure TV and rich in color! I am using composite outputs (haven't even tried svideo)

Anyone know why it is so good??

If I remember right (correct me if I'm wrong!) the PVR-150's drivers do not support closed captioning (CC)...

Or maybe that was just the MCE version.. Can't remember for sure now.

Not a huge deal, but the CC info is very useful for improving the accuracy of the commercial detection.
