WinTV 150 vs 250/350

Hello,

I see that SageTV has a bundle available for $150 with Sage and the 150 card. I won't be using this system for any Live TV pausing and such but mainly for the video recording abilities of TV shows. Is there anything that the 150 card can't do that the higher up cards can or will that card work fine?

According to Hauppauge's website the 150 says: Same video quality as the WinTV-PVR-250 at a lower cost.

I also would most likely not be viewing shows directly from the PC since it's not hooked up to my TVs but would probably burn them to DVD for watching later.

The 150 is a newer generation card, with picture improvements according to those that have it.

There is a questionmark in my mind about close captioning(cc) support however.
Maybe someone else can confirm this.

Yes, AFAIK closed captioning is not supported right now with the 150.

Other than that, it's basically just a cheaper implementation of the same hardware. slightly updated chips, but it's questionable whether or not you'll actually see a difference in video quality. some people would, some wouldn't. either way, it's not a huge difference.

So if I have no use for Closer Captioning, the 150 would be the better card to go with since it's cheaper...

And as far as the 150 vs the 150MCE, one has a remote and the other has RCA inputs? So if I wanted to take stuff off a VCR and capture it to DVD the MCE woudl probably be better?

Looks like I can get it for like $65 so that's pretty good. Can try it out with the trial of Sage and see how it goes....

the pvr150 retail comes with the remote, and an IR blaster.... I don't think the mce version comes with the blaster either....so if you need one, you save money...and FYI, the remote/blaster is supported in sagetv and its the reason I bought the 150 vs the 250.

oh, and the rca inputs is irrelevant imo....you just use a different cable with the retail...an 1/8" stereo phono plug to rca males
