mce 2005 remote with sage/winxp home (not MCE)

I got my hands on an MCE 2005 remote. I really like it and want to use it with Sage on my HTPC. MCE 2005 detected the IR receiver right away, but XP Home won't. I haven't had any luck finding drivers for it.

Can the remote be used with XP Home? If it can then will someone point me to the drivers?

No. It will work with Win XP Pro with SP1 (edit:and above) or WInXP MCE.

I have the MCE remote as well. I gave up on trying to get the MCE receiver to work, I followed all the instructions I could find and never could get XP to properly recognize the receiver.

I bought a USB-UIRT and use the MCE remote with it, and it works great.

When I received my MCE remote, all I did was plug in the receiver and WinXP Pro SP2 detected and installed the receiver. Currently I am using a girder plugin and can remap every button on the remote. The plugin comes with a custom driver that allows the use of any other IR remote and can learn IR commands to send to the two IR blasters.

You can find the girder plugin (w/ drivers) at Proximis called MCE Remote plugin v. 0.18 by BurningZeRoad

Mind posting your file (if there is one?) with all the mappings for Sage?

Thanks.

Here is the plugin and GML file. I want to thank Stanger for providing the original skeletal GML file.

edit: a few notes about the buttons on the MCE remote
Pause - I don't have it mapped to any function. The 'Play' button performs SageTV 'Play / Pause'

i - I have it mapped to 'Options' instead of 'Info'

MCE logo - Fullscreen

DVD Menu - takes you back to 'Home' menu

LiveTV - switch between viewing a show and the previous screen

* - Don't Like

# - Watched

Clear - nothing

Enter - same as "OK" button between the cursor buttons.

I'm running XP Home Edition and it would never recognize the MCE receiver. Is there some issue between the two or are my setup problems just a fluke?

You need to have at least Win XP Pro service pack 1 or better. Service pack 1 actually provided the drivers for the MCE Remote.

from what i've read the plugin that was written by burningzeroad will work with xp home sp1 and above. that same plugin is also fully incorporated into HIP and girder isn't required but can be used.

I tried with both SP1 and 2 for Home Edition and it would never recognize the device. When I selected the driver manually it would load but I would have conflicts and it wouldn't receive commands from the remote.

Everything I read said all you had to do was plug it in and windows would do the rest. Sadly this wasn't the case with me and I ended up springing for the USB-UIRT.

Hopefully Konig will have better results.

Again-you need Windows XP Pro with at least SP1 or SP2. It will NOT work with Windows XP Home.

All you have to do is plug it in and Windows will do the rest-Windows XP Pro-SP1 or 2.

I have it working with XP Home SP2. Had to hunt around on the web for irbus.inf, but it works fine now.
