TV Out to HDTV
I am very close to pulling the trigger on the purchase of a Plasma TV monitor,
the resolution is 1366x768 . The TV has a standard VGA in, and component in of course, but I can also get a optional DVI in. I have DVI, svideo and of course VGA out on my Radeon 9800SE, anyone have any experience in which is the best ? I had figured that the DVI would be best, but I was thrown for a loop by the option to go straight to VGA. thanks, mike/ |

straight dvi from ati cards doesn't paint a very good picture (color wise) it crushes blacks.
your better connections would be vga or component using the dongle. |

VGA would be easier to configure with just your drivers properties.

I thought, for the longest time, that I was better off using DVI out from my 9700 Pro to my Sammy HCN529W. However, I finally changed over to the YPrBr adatper (that I've had for a year) and am not looking back. Due to several factors, this works better for me:
1. Easier resolution setup. I don't have to fook with power strip (which, is a PITA) 2. Native support for 480i so I can go into the BIOS with the YPrBr output; something I couldn't do via DVI. 3. Don't have to use a DVI Detective (if anybody says that I didn't need to they can keep it to themselves, I do/did ... grrrr.) 4. On the #1 I can get a bunch of resolutions that work out of the box at 720p timing (which required considerable putzing to get otherwise.) Bottom line, I'm happy now ![]() Though VGA input would be easiest, I don't know if you'll hit any freq/res issues with that input. I know some HDPRTVs have limitations on them. You are planning on getting a plasma that's HD, right? ![]() Last edited by dagar; 04-20-2005 at 06:29 PM. |

thanks for the response, based on what has been said, I think I will hold off on purchasing additional inputs for now, and see what the dongle to component and straight vga look like.

I was wondering if anybody has an ATI AIW 9800 Pro with it hooked up to there HDTV (AND) vga/DVI monitor?
My problem is that I can't get a proper resolution on my monitor and HDTV at the same time. My HDTV (57" Hitatchi) works best at 1104x636, but my monitor has SERIOUS overscan at that resolution. How can I set them up with different resolutions? What could I be doing wrong? Please help, I am sick of s-video quality..... ![]() ![]() ![]()

1) I had to play with powerstrip with the nvidia card but haven't had to with my ATI. 2) I go straight to bios, see the boot screens, etc etc and my tv even brings up on the screen showing that it's just changed to 480i when I'm booting. 3) I don't think you have to... since I don't even know what that is. ![]() 4) Can't say there since I'm either 480i or 1080i...
