Thanks Wheemer. I find SHS's site to be a little confusing when it comes to driver revisions. I suppose that's mainly because I always try to find them through the forums, not the downloads section....

Anyways, thanks guys. I hope this fixes my EOF problems...

It seems that my problem is now the SageTV client. I'm unable to connect to the server. It always says that the connection can't be made and ask me to check the Server setting in the SaveTV configuration menu. Does someone know the signification of the '(1)' and the '(2)' written at the end of this error? Sometime I get the (1) and sometime the (2). Maybe it can help me debug my problem.

Hmmm.. Strange... If I enter the IP of a PC without SageTV server or simply a wrong IP, I have the number (1) written at the end of the error. But if I specify my SageTV server's IP, I get the same error with the number (2) written. So it seems that the my Sage client has detected the server but can't connect to it....

Yesterday I've completely deleted the SageTV server and reinstalled it. But I didn't get any prompt to enter my license number like it does when reinstalling SageTV Client. How can I enter one? Does Sage have an about Window?

Ok... I've added the 'consolewin' to have the debug console while trying to connect to the Sage Server. Here is the number signification:

(0): java.net.UnknownHostException = The client can't connect to a PC with the provided address.

(1): java.net.ConnectException = A remote PC has been found, but no Sage Server was found.

(2): java.io.IOException = Using a Sage Client with an already registered license key!

I've tried to connect to the Server with my laptop and I got a weird playback error. So I've tried to use my PC to connect to the server since it was the only one I had with SageTV client before the big crash. But it seems the server has recognise the license key and refuse to use it! I just bought two SageTV client licenses and it's working!!

Now.. I need to find why I get a playback error on my laptop... The solution next week!

The debug console is great! I now know why I was having a Playback error on my laptop, it doesn't support the overlay mode. So I can't watch TV on it cuz it's only a PIII 500 and the software rendering takes too much resources .

Did you use the same client license key on both of your client installations? The server won't allow 2 clients with the same license to connect. If you have accidentally entered the same license twice, use the REGISTER command line parameter to clear them out on the client PCs & re-enter them. See Appendix D in the manual, starting on p. 191 for v2.2.

Heya,

I am also thinking a possible firewall issue here?

The license problem was on my PC as mentioned in my last messages. The laptop was my first test with the newly installed server, so no license problem. I've the modify 'Video Renderer' option in the Video menu from 'Overlay' to default. The client is working now, but unfortunately, my laptop is too slow to handle software video rendering. I'll have to buy another laptop to use my license! Hehehe!

Well,

I have been using SageTV for just a few days now (maybe 1-2 weeks) but I have to agree that it does not work as reliably as it probably should. The problem is that all is well after installation and for a few recordings but then, seemingly out of nowhere there are problems and recorded programs are broken. This is not reliable and therefore not really usable because I never know if scheduled programs will record correctly.

Those are my problems with SageTV:

1. Sometimes the recorded video does not have sound. I have no idea how this happens or what triggers it but this of course is reason enough not to record using SageTV because I cannot rely on it.

2. Sometimes the recorded video shows only a black picture although the recording before that one worked just fine. The same thing as above, I have no idea what "triggers" this bug.
HI !

To be fair to Sage, I have to correct my statement. I have reinstalled Windows completely over the last few days and since that Sage TV has correctly recorded all scheduled shows. I have tried for 2 days now and those 2 problems have not appeared anymore. Maybe my Windows installation was somehow broken

I still think SageTV should have the ability to reload the EPG on pressing a dedicated button and it should offer a way to add channels manually to an existing (XMLTV) lineup.

If Sage TV "behaves nice" over the next few days I am gonna have to reconsider paying for it ...

Bye,
Alex

There is no dedicated button, but disabling and re-enabling a channel in the channel setup will force an EPG update

See here for a way to do this:
(Tons more XMLTV links here: http://www.sage-community.org/index.cgi/wiki/XMLTV)

nielm:

thanks for your help. I already tried what you suggested (create dummy.xml and combine that with the epgdata.xml)

But the resulting file was stripped of all the EPG data and only contained channel information.

Does not work :-(

Alex

Heya,

The EPG does refresh if you remove/add a channel, it just takes a few for it to update. Give it 10 or 15 then take a look through all the channels. If you see that some are updated then its working.

Enjoy,
RedR

HI !

Never mind, SageTV just busted a recording again. It worked fine for two days and now on the third day, out of 4 scheduled recordings, three turned out fine and the fourth contained no video (black screen) and no audio.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE !!!

I am just glad I did not pay for SageTV yet.

Bye,
Alex

midiboy: I would make sure that all the drivers (500, motherboard, etc) are up to date and also make sure that there are no problems recording with the 500 using Hauppauge's software for extended periods of time, to verify that there isn't a problem with the 500 itself. You could also contact Frey tech support directly to see if they have suggestions. They might be aware of some specific issue with the 500.

Hi Andy,

I am already using the latest drivers for the 500 (and motherboard). Since the PVR500 does not come with any Hauppauge software (the WinTV2000 does not even run on it with the MCE drivers) I cannot test that. Mediaportal does not show this problem, however.

I will contact tech support as you suggested.

Bye,
Alex
