Problems with Sagewake util

After running sagewake smoothly for a month or so, all of a sudden it gives me problems.

This is what happens;
After i have put my computer to standby (S3) and it is left of for a day or so, i try to wake it by double clicking my mouse (like normal). When i get my windows desktop back, i see this pop up window of sagewake sitting there. It is stuck at 30 seconds or so and the box says "sagewake will put the pc to standby in....seconds" The time bar doesn't move anymore. Within seconds of waking up, the pc goes to standby....
I have had ocasions were 3 instances of that same dialog box are sitting there. I have to wake the pc up 3 times for all instances to be gone and for the pc to remain on. This behaviour causes me to miss recordings, because it behaves the same when the pc is woken from standby to do a recording!
I don't know why this happens, but it is annoying as you can imagine. Here is part of the sagewake log:

One thing to note is that every day i do an XMLTV download which is scheduled in windows. I have set this task to allow waking up the pc. In the log above you can see this event switching on the pc and after a few minutes switching to standby (2.30PM-2.41PM, marked red). Can this perhaps have something to do with it? I don't know but perhaps someone can help out.

At 9.25PM you can see it missing the recording of CSI (marked orange)

The events at 12.38AM untill 12.39AM is me waking the pc from standby by mouse. You can see that it switches off itself because of this sagewake pop up window.

Have you tried without SageWake, Sage natively supports Windows power managment now.

Erm....what do you mean? I don't know a lot of these things (power management and so on).

Do you mean a new beta version? If so, how to install....can it just be installed over the current version or do i need to remove everything and set everything up again (XMLTV and so on)?

Hmmm...don't want to sound stupid, but is SageTV capable of waking up my system? I can't find anything about it in the manual (setting it up i mean). At this point my computer is certainly not waking up to do a recording because of SageTV. I can make it happen, but i do need sagewake for it.
I just tested with a manual recording. I scheduled a recording and put my pc to standby with the button on my keyboard. Waited for 10 minutes to reach the set time, but nothing happened.
So, please explain what you mean and where i can find a way to set it up. I think i have windows power management set-up ok, because it used to work ok with sagewake.

TIA,

Henk99

SageTV _should_ interact with the Windows power management settings to automatically wake the system in time for scheduled favorites or manual recordings -- see pages 23 - 24 for a blurb on it. There is nothing to set in SageTV; it should just automatically handle it according to the Windows settings. I believe there were some bug fixes with that in the latest versions, though the current release (v2.2.7) has a new bug regardig library import dirs. See v2.2.7 Library Import Directory bug & a link to the v2.2.6 version towards the end of that thread.

Regarding installing a new version, I would recommend exiting SageTV, making a complete copy of the Frey Tech dir, then install the SageTV upgrade. All of your old settings should work fine. Then, if you run into problems, you can uninstall, reinstall your older version, & copy back the saved Frey Tech dir.

BTW: there is a thread dealing with SageWake & the author may monitor that one, so you could always try there for help with that util. SageWake still has more options for power management than SageTV.

Hmmm....allrighty

I just found some thread talking about running sagetv as a service to be able to wake the computer. That figures, i don't run it as a service, so it could never wake it up.
I started the service and did a trial recording again and it woke up the pc nicely. I can't tell by the tray icon if it is actually recording now, but i can check it tomorrow. I have set it up to do a few recordings this night.
If all is well, the service is now recording while my interface is doing nothing. I can see no temp recording files or anything, so i have to assume it is working and check back in the morning.

I'll get back to you guys to let you know if it was working or not.

Thanks so far guys.

Henk99

PS: I'll put my original question in the thread about sagewake

I never could get sagewake to work right on my system. I've posted in that long thread. so I finally gave up on it last year and didn't realize until today that it's now incorporated into sage I'm running v 2.1.10-- certainly not a new version.

I think the key step henk99 is missing is that windows needs to power off automatically and then it should wake up to record a show adn then power off again automatically according to the windows setting.

I went into Start> Control Panel> Power options and set my PC to hibernate (fans don't go off in standby for me- a big pet peeve) after 2 min. Then I set sage to record a couple shows to test it. The PC came on, recorded, went off after teh recording ended and came on again later for the second show. It recorded that for an hour adn then went off again -- all automatically.

the sage tv people should send out email to an opt-in list of owners to inform them of major updates like 2.2 being out now, and new features. I went probably close to a 6 months?? not knowing sage had this function which I really like. Yeah, I could surf this site more frequently, but we're all busy..

edit: I see we posted at the same time.. I'm not running sage as a service either.

Right... you shouldn't have to run in service mode for PM to work.

They used to do that, but maybe they wait for it to be out for a while before sending out a notice. (Perhaps in case something unexpected shows up, like just happened...)

Ok guys, thanks all for alerting me that this feature resides in SageTV. I have it working great now, without sagewake.
I did some serious experimenting over the last 2 days and found the standby button on my logitech keyboard to be the problem. Whenever i use this button to put the computer to standby, neither sagewake nor sagetv itself is able to wake up the pc properly. It does wake it sometimes (sagewake that is) but the pc shuts down after a few seconds (still don't know why it does that) and thereby misses the recording.
When i let windows shut down the pc by using the power management settings, everything works fine. I did stop using sagewake now, allthough it worked great for quite some time, i find it easier to just use the sagetv version. I doesn't require me to have an extra program resident in memory all the time.
