New User: Help with media libraries
Hi All,
I just purchased Sage TV after trialing it and BeyondTV. Im just getting used to the system but im having a couple of issues which I cant seem to figure a way around. Specifically: Along with my active library I have a bunch of offline storage media (ie tv series that every once and a while I want to watch), these too are primarily divx / xvid shows stored on DVD (with the occasional VCD/SVCD thrown in). Is there a way to get sage to actually temporarily index these files into the archive? Or inleast get it to allow it to work with the files without requiring me to temporarily copy the files to the hd? If anyone has some suggestions to help me out Id really appreciate it. So far excepting these issues sage is working well for me (excluding the occasional java hiccup) - so I would really like to get past this issue. Thanks Adam Last edited by agover; 02-13-2005 at 12:57 AM. |

Not yet, but I think a few beta testers have mentioned an interest in adding offline media capability, so I'd guess it's coming but I don't know when.

There is currently no way of keeping a library of 'offline media', but if you just want to play back files in the current CD/DVD, it might work if you add the DVD drive as an 'import library' (setup->detailed setup->General)...
Each time you change CDs/DVDs, you will need to 'rescan media library' to recognise the new files on the DVD. They should then show up in the imported video library and should be playable. |

Neil,
Thats a good idea. It never even occured to me.. Ill give that a try - I generally dont need to flip discs often (as I store upwards of 8 episodes per disc) so rescans arent a big deal. Thanks Adam |
