How do I play a ripped DVD using PVR-350 TV-out and SageTV?

I ripped a DVD to my hard drive, and can play it fine through SageTV, however, I want to watch it on my TV using the TV-out on my Hauppauge PVR-350. I can get video, but no audio on my TV. Basically, I used DVD Shrink to get it to my hard drive, and then renamed the VOB file to a MPG file. When I go to play it through SageTV, I only get video, no audio. I also tried to import the entire structure of the ripped DVD(VOB, IFO, etc) as outlined in the SageTV manual and then watch it, but then I do not get any video or audio to my TV; only my computer.

So, is there anyway to watch a ripped DVD using SageTV on my TV using the TV-out of my PVR-350? If so, how?

You have to convert the audio to standard MPEG-2 audio for it to play throught the 350.

Wouldn't just ripping with AC3 2channel only, no 6 channel format(s), work? Seems it would but I can't test since don't have PVR350 playback limitation.

The 350 can't decode AC3 at all.

I understand that I probably needed to convert the file somehow, but what would be the best way to do this, and which program(s) do you recommend to do it? I think I read somewhere here about you using AC3filter, but how do you use it? Can it simply convert a file to standard MPEG2, or do I have to use it as my decoder within Sage to playback a file formatted in AC3? Is there another program such as Nero that would work? I would appreciate some more details on how to get it to work, and what "tweaks" I might need to make within the Sage properties file, if any.

There is an easy way to do it. Basically what you do is decrypt the dvd using DVDDecrypter and put the output into seperate audio / video streams. Then, you re-encode the audio into MP3 using BeSweet. Then use mplex to multiplex the audio and video back together.

This entire process takes me about 15-30 minutes per movie. The good news is that several of us have already done the hard work to make it easy.

Cayars is / has (been away from the boards for awhile) buillt in support to handle this method of ripping dvd's. I have created a vbscript that I use on my laptop to rip the dvd's, and finally GBPVR (the guys that actually came up with the idea) created a plugin to handle it right from their main menu (btw - version 1 of their plugin is better than version 2.)

Do some googling, and you will find the tools etc that you need.
