Is anyone still noticing UI sluggishness in the 2.2 RELEASE version, when running in service mode, and watching the same mpeg file that is currently being written/recorded to by SGraphRecorder?

I have some problems sometimes. When watching live video captured by SGR, the picture will freeze completely. I can switch back to watching a recorded program and then switch back to live and that might fix it. This happens mostly when watching HDTV. Sometimes when watching (and recording) HDTV if I try to RW, I will get in a loop similar to the audio loop on a scratched CD. Durration of loop is about a second and continuously repeats until I choose to watch a previously recorded program. When this happens, I can't go back and watch the HDTV recorded program until recording is finished.

Are there any good tools that I could use to analyze the files created by SGR? I've been trying to record HD through firewire for a while now and no matter what I do, I get the Audio renderer error. The files play fine in windows media player, but SageTV chokes on them.

Gspot should work...although it gives a length error for most files over 4Gb. You could also use graphedit to "render media file". It will show you what filters are defaulted to play that file type. Do you have AC3filter installed? That could help.

I see most of you are trying to get this going with firewire STBs or with HD cards. Has anyone been able to get something to work for a software encoding card?
Thanks

I think I'm using an older version of GraphEdit to make my graph files. Do you think that may cause some problems? Are the graph file it outputs actually different or is it just a newer program?

SGraphRecorder is using functions in DirectX to load the graph. I think that GraphEdit is using the corresponding functions to save the graph. That probably means that GraphEdit and SGraphRecorder on the same computer and/or the same version of DirectX should be compatible.

I managed to get a Radeon AIW working with little problems. For the ATI cards you can take a look here at the bottom of the page for graph examples.

I installed AC3filter, but it doesn't show up as an audio decoder in sage. If I add AC3Filter to the additional audio decoders line in the properties file and select it in the detailed setup menu, sage crashes when I try to watch something.

Edit:
Also..I used graphedit to "render media file". The audio goes like this blah.mpg->SageTV MPEG Splitter->NVidia Audio Decoder->Default Directsound Device. Then I hit the play button in graph edit and it played fine. I tried setting the audio decoder in sage to NVidea, but I still get the audio playback exception error.

is girder required for channel changes if I try to get this to work with an ATI Radeon (VIVO-non AIW)--using an external STB? And any help for a complete beginner on this would be appreciated.
thanks

There are two options for channel changing.

SgraphRecorder will either send Girder events, for instance if it wants to change to channel 123, it would send girder

Channel1
Channel2 (where "Channel" may be replaced with text or your choice")
Channel3
ChannelEnter

or it can send Girder

Channel123

Or SGraphRecorder can call an external porogram of your choice and will pass the channel as the argument like so

ExtTunerProg.exe 123

So, the answer to your question depends on what you are using for your blaster. Is it built-in to the ATI card? Is there Girder support for the card? Is there support via an external program to control the blaster?

hmm. I am trying to avoid Girder if possible. I haven't needed it so far. I plan on using an extra Actisys 200 I have to change channels if possible for my STB. what options are available for external tuner programs?
Thanks

I just purchased a dcs 900W tonight and I don't think it will work with the network encoder. I was able to get my Logitech USB cab to work with Sage, but the 900W does not show up as a capture device in Graphedit so I don't think it will work. I would love it if somebody could figure this out, if not it is going back. Thanks.

Turak-
AC3filter helped me with a few DD2.0 captures and a few avi's. I do not have it loaded as a selectable decoder in Sage. I do tell Sage to use the defaults for audio...have been setting the one option to Intervideo audio decoder for a while now though.

You could try to demote the sage splitter or sage demux with a filter manager (several out there). I have done this and all seems to run better. I do not understand why this filter gets put at the top of the list anyhow (system default). You can get one here.

I will also check what I get with graphedit, but I do know that I do not get any sage filters and I do get AC3filter as the audio decoder. IIRC, I'm getting the default microsoft mpeg demuxer/splitter.

EDIT
I get MPEG-2 Demultiplexer-->AC3filter. I demoted the Sage splitter and any demuxer.

For some reason, most software think that it should install it's filter as the highest priority. Therefore, whatever you install last tends to be the defaulted filter...as is the case with me and AC3filter. Sage SHOULD use the same filters as what shows up in graphedit if everything is set to default inside sage. I do not always see this as the case and have since been using the Intervideo audio decoder as mentioned above.

For this reason, most people prefer to use software like TT so they can set what filters to use via graphs (among other reasons). You could use a filter manager to set the priority levels so you get a "TT graph" everytime you open windows media player or the like.

You'll notice with a filter manager, a number will be associated...such as 0x00800000. The higher the number, the higher the priority to be used. Demote the sage splitter to something like 0x00400000 (or lower) and re-render in graphedit (FILE-NEW first!) to see what the new splitter/demuxer shows up as. It could be this splitter that is giving you headaches.

We should probably put this in a new thread. We could discuss filters for a long time. I am a firm believer in staying away from codec packs now. Only install those that you know you use and stay away from the ones you don't use...even if you might use them in the future.

BTW, I am in no way a filter/graphedit guru. I have only started using these concepts a little while ago. I am speaking as to what helped me fix my problems. I have also used this process to fix media problems on other computers as well--with success. If anyone sees what I am suggesting as a pile of dung, please help.

Anders,
Can you check out the firewire thread? We have channel changes working thru the FW port now and it's really fast. Was wondering if you could add an option on the external tuner for this program? In the .ini, there would be an additional option you could use to set which "tuner" to use. The command would be like "channel.exe 2 610" to change tuner 2 to channel 610. eobiont suggested using a .cmd file but that pops up a window for a split second.

aperry has the answer you are looking for in the firewire thread. Just use "ExeTunerPath=C:\Firewire\Channel.exe 2" with the tuner number on the line in the ini file.

Anders,

I've been having a problem with SGR. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, SGR will all of the sudden start using 95-100% CPU. And this even happens at times when it's not even in use (not trying to record anything off of firewire). I had seen it before when using firewire, but last night for instance, it had pegged itself, and the only "odd" thing was that my other 6 tuners (three PVR-500's) were all in use. I was not watching or attempting to record anything on the firewire line.

Anyhow, I've disabled it for now, but thought you might be able to offer some suggestions to get it to work more reliably.

Thanks!

Ethernet Encoder

Hi

Can UNA be setup to use Ethernet instead of IEEE-1394. I use a DBox2 STB and it can record via ethernet to a share on a pc. Would like to set Sage up to use this as an encoder.

Thanx

A new version of SGR is now available from my homepage. See first post in this thread for info.
