Physical Placement of USB-UIRT. I'm easily confused.
I'm building my first SageTV system. I ordered the USB-UIRT and a StreamZap remote from the SageTV website. My understanding is that I will not need the IR Receiver bundled with the Streamzap, as the USB-UIRT can receive the signals from the remote, as well as blast the signals to my Scientific Atlanta Digital Cable box, to change channels, etc.
Is the USB-UIRT line of sight? How do I position it so that it can receive signals from the remote as well as send signals to the cable box? Do I need to turn the cable box backwards and put it in front of the USB-UIRT so that it can receive a signal? Is there another purchase I need to make, to get a little external cable out from the USB-UIRT that does the blasting? It's probably a stupid question with a simple answer, but I'm not sure how this works. If the USB-UIRT is sitting on top of or adjacent to the cable box, I'm not sure how its blasts can hit the Sci. Atlanta box?!?!? |

Best bet it to purchase an IR emitter cable. It plugs in to the back of the USB-UIRT via a 1/8 miniplug and then you stick the LED to the cable box's IR window.

Cool, just what I wanted to know. Any suggestions as to where to get one?
Thanks for the quick reply. |

You can also make these emittors pretty cheaply and easily from parts at ratshack.
my very simple howto guide http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...9&postcount=29 Note mine uses two emittors because the usb-uirt can have up to 3 zones, you can just leave out an emittor if you do not need it. |
