Question need clarification on 500mce specs

Ok, tell me if I've got this right:

1) 500mce has dual TV Tuners and dual MPEG encoders

2) There are 2 coax inputs on the back of the card, BUT only one is for cable input (the other is for radio)

3) If you have analog cable, you would just plug it into the coax input, the 500mce splits this internally, and then in SageTV you would have 2 identical sources

4) 500mce also has Svideo & composite inputs plus analog audio inputs, most likely for use with a cable or satellite set top box

5) 500mce has a total of 4 potential a/v sources, but you can ONLY use 2 of them simultaneously (and obviously not simultaneous use of Svideo and composite)

6) 500mce has 2 onboard a/v headers for connection to something

7) If you have multiple set top boxes (and no analog cable), the 500mce could accept 2 sources, but you would have to use a coax cable for one of them (thus having multiple capture cards would be better if you have multiple set top boxes)

Korben,

1-4. This is correct

5. Well actually no it has more sources
1 - Ant/Cable Coax input - Both Tuners can use this
2 - FM Coax input - Only one Tuner can use this
3 - Back Panel - Svideo/Composite/RCA Audio - Only one Tuner can use this at a time
4 - Front Panel - SVideo/Composite/RCA Audio Tuner 1
5 - Front Panel - SVideo/Composite/RCA Audio Tuner 2

6. - These header allow you to add a front panel AV connector Set - i.e. anothe set of Svideo / Composite/ Audio so you could have two STBs connected to the PVR 500.

7. - EDIT: Well you could create a connector for the headers mentioned in 6.

See this thread on SHS Forum on the connector

http://www.shspvr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5692

Also from the SHS PVR FAQ:

Q: My PVR 250/350 come with white header (10pin OEM or 13pin Retail) what is that for?
and how make use of it.
A: It a A/V header was designed to support an A/V panel for the front of a PC chassis
which hauppauge plan to release later this year as an add/on device.
Being some user have MiniATX case this may not be option for you due lack of 5 1/4
bay so hauppauge sent me the info on the pin out so you may build your own custom A/V
panel from gound up.
The onboard header supports audio and video inputs, which can be used as
auxiliary A/V sources. In the standard configuration, this header is a10-pin, though the connector will also support an optional 13-pinconfiguration which adds Infra-red remote control support in positions J9-11through J9-13.

Sources for a mating connector include the JST model 10NR-E series or the
JST model XHP-10.

J9 - 2.5mm locking header
J9 - 10 Audio shield
J9 - 9 Line In 2 Right
J9 - 8 Line In 2 Left
J9 - 7 Audio Shield
J9 - 6 Composite 2
J9 - 5 Composite 2 shield
J9 - 4 Chroma 2
J9 - 3 Chroma 2 shield
J9 - 2 Luma 2 shield
J9 - 1 Luma 2

So at this point it looks like Hauppauge does not offer the actual output connector.

????????? let me get this straight ?

I get dual tuner with ONE analog line ? IE I do not have to split into 2 it does that internally and can record 2 different channels with ONE cable line in ???

if that is true that rocks. Might not need an amplifyer then !!! cool !!

I thought to use dual tuners I was going to have to run FOUR coax lines into the 2 cards !!

It will split analog cable into 2 sources internally.

However, if you are using a cable set top box, this will not work.

nono straight in analog coax no box :-)

COOL !!!

can it use coax for one tuner and the RCA inputs for the second ?

I eventually would like to have 2 mce 500's 3 tuners getting the coax analog cable and one getting input from my direct tv box (the ONLY channel I want but can not get on analog is tech tv :-) hehehe

is this possible ? decicate 1 tuner to the coax and the other encoder to the rca inputs ?
