Move video -> New hard drive

I just got a new hard drive and set aside 75GB with 64K clusters for SageTV.
Can I safely copy over my current videos to the new hard drive and still have Sage recognize them?

I tried moving something that was in the SageRecording section and it was moved into the errant folder when I woke Sage up...am I out of luck?

Try turning Sage off. Moving the file into the recording section directory on the hard drive, and restarting Sage. I think Sage does a survey at startup and then it will recognize it in the recorded content epg.

No go, tried and it got moved into the errant folder on startup...Jeff?? Beuler??

It can only import files it still has the database entries for. If its not recognizing the files, then their entries might have been removed in the DB cleanup routine. If you're Wiz.bak file isn't too new, you can try replacing the Wiz.bin file with it. Worst case, you just add the errant folder to the library import directory list and it'll show up in the library.

I have having the same type of problem. When I initially set up Sage on my media PC it started recording in the "default directory", then I changed the working directory to a different drive, then on purchasing a new drive to accomodate the daily recordings at DVD-STD quality, I changed once again, this is exasperated because I typo'ed the path name as "multimedia" instead of "media library".

The end result is I have recorded TV shows and movies all over my 4 hard drives on 4 seperate paths. I cant seem to consolidate them without dumping the video files into the generic "video library" where you loose all EPG data for the files.

Ive tried everything I can think of... including directly editing wiz.bin. I finally restored all of the files to their original locations using wiz.bak as a roadmap and they all show back up in the "sage recordings" or "tv library" spots where they should.

There HAS to be a solution to this problem... could someone post step by step instructions that work, and preserve the EPG data? If there isnt any way for this to work then a simple 'delete the video files and start over' from the dev team will suffice.

There's no way currently to move the files to a different location, unless that other location has the exact same number of characters in the path. Then you should just be able to edit the Wiz file and do a search and replace (i.e.. if you're moving them from D:\Video to E:\Video, then you should be able to just replace all of those entries, move the files, startup SageTV and all should be fine).

Ok thanks for that info Narflex!! That works... I'm going to do it then post a step by step instruction on how to complete this for win xp/nt users.

Since you can map virtual paths to drives its easy to use that solution... form "c:\multimedia\video" map the other hard drive root path to "x:\multimedia\video" thru administrative tools.

While not ideal this is a usable workaround.

narflex, worked great. I just installed a new 120 gb drive just for sage.


sagetv software all sits on the c: drive

all video was on a partition d: which resides physically on the c: drive

I installed the new drive, formated it 64k , set the drive letter to f:

copied all the video files and folders from the d: drive to the f: drive

changed the name of the d: partition to g:

changed f: to d:

sage works great!

Seems that I lucked out by making a dedicated partition for sage video files from the begining. The real reason I did this, was that I like to keep the c: drive under10gb so I can ghost it to one of the dozen or so old, slow 10gb drives I have laying around.
