DVI to compenent

I've got a NVidia Geforce 5700, is there a way to use the DVI out to Component? I noticed that ATI cards have either a dongle or a cable to do this. Is there something comparable on the Nvidia cards (and if not maybe a short primer on why since I'm confused)

Thanks,

Mike

While some of the ATIs support component dongle off DVI not all do. Same for NVidia. My 6600GT has component out dongle support (but not off DVI, off their modified SVid port) while the 6800 series does not. Why? The why is simply because. Component video output from video cards seems less supported than you might think. I don't think the 5700 series supports component output, atleast not from what I could find on their website. Best way to know for sure is to call your particular brand tech support and find out.

The ATI HDTV adapter that you speak of, doesn't convert from a DVI signal to a Component signal, it only changes the physical connection. The conversion (if you will) is done inside the GPU on ATI cards capable of it, therefore it won't work on anything else.

The only way to get component from your 5700 is via VGA output into a VGA->Component transcoder. But for the price you might as well just get a new 6600 with component output built in.
