2x MVP design suggestion needed

Hi all,

I want to use a sage/MVP setup and have a few questions.

I have attached a .jpg of the proposed setup and would like any suggestions.

Also, a couple of questions:

1. If I put 2 DVD players into the PC, could each MVP be allocated that DVD player so I could use both at once.
2. I will use 2 IR transmitters to change channels on 2 separate set top boxes. Will sage know which IR transmitter to use?
3. What kind of PC will I need to do this? If I am playing 2x DVD and recording/encoding 2 video streams as well as maybe playing MP3. I currently am using an AMD 2600 under-clocked to 1800 for quiet operation.

Thanks in advance:

The MVP can't handle DVD audio, it only does Mpeg2, as far as I know. As for the ir blaster, the USB-UIRT seems to be the only way to go. It has triple zone support which means one unit will control three STBs...

I have to agree, the only major problem you have listed here is the dvd playback. Now, if you're thinking you'll setup a seperate dvd drive for each mvp, and use it for ripping purposes only, then yeah, it'll probably work.

Now, that's not to say that it wouldn't be a complete waste having 2 dvd drives considering very few machines could handle ripping 2 dvd's at the same time (not only cpu, but also disk i/o.)

Anywho, drop the dvd drives, and it should work like a champ.

I am confused as to how this would work. The STBs are both exactly the same and I was planning to place them on top of each other. Won't the USB-UIRT change both at the same time?

Towards the bottom of this index post are some links for the USB-UIRT. Using its zone suport, you can have it control up to 3 of the same STBs if they emitters/boxes are kept isolated. If the STBs use different IR codes (or can be set to use differnt codes), then the USB-UIRT can be used to control however many boxes you have w/o worrying about the zones.

Will the MVP play DVD File format from HD? Or is that the same problem?

Nope-same problem. Unless you rip the audio portion to something other than AC3.

Or replace the software with MediaMVP Media Center. Very much still a WIP tho. So far it can play VOB files but doesn't yet support DVD menus/format.

peace . . .

Isn't that designed to be compiled on Linux and designed more to be used as a front end to Myth TV?

Quote from the Sourceforge site:
1. What is the MediaMVP
The MediaMVP is a small, diskless Linux computer which obtains its operating system via TFTP. From the information page at http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/produ...mediamvp.html:

"MediaMVP is a Linux based digital media receiver based on a powerful IBM PowerPC processor. It includes a hardware MPEG decoder to process digital video movies, while music and digital pictures are software decoded by MediaMVP's processor. It receives the digital media from a PC via an Ethernet LAN, decodes the media and outputs video through composite and S-Video connections, and audio through stereo audio output connectors."

The mvpmc project uses the MediaMVP hardware and replaces the software that the MediaMVP runs. Because the MediaMVP boots completely from the network, changes made to the software aren't permanent - you can always switch back to using the Hauppauge-supplied software with the Windows server.

And from the Project Page:
The MediaMVP Media Center is a project dedicated to building a open source suite of libraries and a media player for the Hauppauge MediaMVP.

Development Status: 3 - Alpha

Intended Audience: End Users/Desktop

License: GNU General Public License (GPL), GNU Library or Lesser General Public License (LGPL)

Operating System: All POSIX (Linux/BSD/UNIX-like OSes), Linux

Notice the OS (not a Windows platform)-this is designed to be used with Myth TV.
