Error in Playback??

I am evaluating the Sage software (very impressive) and am about a week into using it. I have had no serious problems until I received the following message:

Error in Playback

Sage Playback Exception Error (-1,0x800401f0):
There was a problem using DirectX for playback.
Please install the latest version of DirectX. If
you already have it installed, please reinstall it.

I get that message when I try to play a recording (or live TV) after hitting the "STOP" button on the new Hauppauge remote. I can get Sage to play again by stopping the interface portion and restarting it, but I really want to fix the problem before I buy the software.

I have DirectX 9c installed (and reinstalled) but to no effect.

Any help is appreciated. Well.... begged for really....

Software:
I am running Sage 2.1.1.0 (evaluation) in server mode.
WinTV remote INI file (mods from OPUS4 post)
DirectX9.0c
WinXPHome
Java J2RE, SE v1.4.2_06


System:
radeon 7000 series AGP
P4 3.0Ghz
Hauppauge PVR150 PCI w/ new style remote

Found that the problem only occurs when SageTV is running as a Windows Service and I am viewing it in the client interface. When I don't use SageTV as a service and just run it as an application, it works fine.

I am guessing that this is not the way the program was designed and I probably have some other problem but I just can't find it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SageTV and Java, reinstalling DirectX, using new drivers for my video AGP, etc. Nothing corrected the problem except to stop running the service.

Any suggestions are welcome.

There a have been various problems reported with the Dx9c which installs via SP2. There is a new version Dx9c released downloadable from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Though Dx says same version the quartz.dll is different size. Reported bad size 1.2M good size 1.8M. Running the Dx install will not however actually install over previous Dx9c. After downloading and extracting the Dx install files to a dir, I booted into Safe mode, did search for quartz.dll, right clicked on the quartz.dll found in newly downloaded directx.cab, selected extract, to system32 dir, yes to replace 1.2M version already there. If you do this in normal mode it will let you do it but after your done WinXP will just put the old you back. Doing this cleared up some stuttering problems I was having using VMR9 after SP2.
