(edited, see *EDIT line)

You're right.. It didn't break anything. I now have the device added to Sage, and it changes channel properly on both cable boxes. One via serial, one via firewire.

Still having one smallish issue though.

I am trying to dump straight to a .ts file, since I will watch the HD recordings in Zoom Player (or something other than Sage). I thought this made sense instead of converting to a .ps.

My test graph looks like this:
Motorola TV Tuner Device -> NVidia TS Info Parser -> MPEG Dump that comes with the SA recorder

When I try my graph in GraphEdit, I get a.ts file created. I can play that .ts file in Zoom Player no problem - looks great.

However I have no audio.

*EDIT: It seems the file plays fine in WMP10 and in VideoReDo. It is only in Zoom Player that I have no audio... Weird. Do I need to do something special to get audio in Zoom Player? Could it be because the audio is AC3 and it isn't downmixing to stereo correctly?

I don't know anything at all about zoom player, but I had this problem in Sage 3.0 also. I figured out that the problem was with the demuxer that Sage was using. My vids would also play fine in WMP10 but not in Sage. It turned out that the demux that Sage was using for playback was not what was shown as the Demux in GSpot (or another filter explorer of your choice). I fixed it by reverting the demux.dll file back to the version released in 3.05

You might try unregistering the AC3 filter in your sage directory and installing the 070 version of AC3 filter. I've had much better results with the older AC3 version, and a horrible time with the 1.02 and 1.03 versions.

Once you get it working, quit playing with it, cause this whole directshow filter thing is a house of cards. God, I wish this software ran on Macintosh.

Thanks for the thought.

I figured it out. The issue was that on the machine I was trying to play them back on (not my Sage Server), I didn't have AC3Filter installed at all.

Installed AC3Filter 1.01rc5 and everything has been perfect since.

Oh, and I can confirm that the Buffalo LinkTheater set top box can play TS streams (including 5.1 DD) perfectly. This is what I'm using to play back the files, and it has been a dream. Maybe if Sage gets all of their kinks worked out I'll switch to Sage Client for that, but until then I will enjoy the 100% working playback EVERY time.... I still use my MediaMVP Sage cleint for SD recordings though.

alright i'm being lazy here - if i have comcast for a cable company and a 62XX series cable box - what channels am i likely to be able to access over firewire?

i have 6 analog tuners right now and i'm about ready to buy an a180 but the firewire backup would be nice too.

pm. me if necessary

ps. i would pay sage good money if they would port an interface over to the linktheater!!!

Completely depends on the cable company. With Charter I can get EVERY channel I have via firewire.

Some movies I can't seem to record though. Presumably because of copy protection... As I can record other things on the same channel just fine. I always thought the 5C protection was 'none or all', but apparently it can be done show by show - per my experiences mentioned above.

I have Comcast - Belmont (Greater Boston Area) and I get channels 2-71 (the analog stations in my area), a couple of digital channels in the 200s (all of them are PBS of one sort or another) and the OTA HD equivalents that are carried..(PBS, FOX, WB, ABC, NBC, CBS and such...)

nope...

which is actually a debate for me right now. I plan to rebuild my htpc and have purchased a pvr500 to use with it, so since I don't have HD yet i'm contemplating dropping the firewire tuner so that I can get premium SD channels on one of the 500's tuners....or i could have 3 non-premium content tuners

Using the SageTV Client to view HD content

Is anyone out there using the SageTV client (v 2.x) to view HDTV material recorded by SageTV with our favorite Firewire technique? Does anyone have any concerns about doing this -- or any tips or techniques to get the Sage TV client to work the best in this type of a setup. It is assumed that the hardware for the client machine will need to be up to the task -- but any ideas in this area would also be helpful.

New release, V3.0.14 Release Candidate 3, seems to have fixed my problem with my premium digital non-HD channels. All of them seem to work now!!!

Still have all my other problems (mostly with lack of audio on analog, which may be due to my sound card - and of course have to hit stop between HD channels), but it's a start!

Yes, straight from Motorola 6200 to the SGR Dump.

Weird. I tried that filter a number of times, and it would never record anything.

I had to do:
Motorola TV Tuner Device -> NVidia TS Info Parser -> MPEG Dump that comes with the SA recorder

V3 Beta.

I'm redoing my firewire recording today... I'll try going straight to the dump again. I guess I figure taking out as much unnecessary stuff as opssible is a good thing...

EDIT: Yup, you are right. Making a filter that goes box to dump worked fine. Thanks for the tip. Not that having the Nvidia TS info parser in there was a big deal, but simpler is better.

I'm a bit confused. What is the "SGR Dump" item that is being referred to. I've found some dump items in my list, but none called that specifically.

The one I used just pixellates of the HD channels (when showing HD), and within about 20 seconds causes Sage to crash. Works great on HD channels when they're not displaying HD (like during evening news). And I'm running RC3 of version 3.

Maybe this "SGR Dump" thing might work better for me.

Can someone provide some guidance?

it's the SGraphRecorder Dump that is included in the SGraphRecorder 1.09 download. I think there's even a little executable file that will register it for you.
