Heck I'd even use USB to change channels! Anything but IR!

I've installed all the latest drivers I can find but none make the AV/C Panel part work for the QIP-7100, specifically. I have heard some people on another forum had edited the .inf file for the drivers, but didn't feel inclined to actually share the file or the method with the rest of us :-)

Thanks for any help!

I GOT THIS TO WORK!!!!

No-there are no certified or any other 64 bit drivers for this. Been discussed at length. If you do firewire channel changing it needs to be a 32 bit OS.

PLEASE HELP WITH FW RECORDING?

Reposting this hopeing that some benevolent sole will take pitty on me and provide some guidance. I'm pulling my hair out trying to make FW recording work.

Here's my situation:

I have set up my firewire recording and everything works like it should:
- channels play in VLC (so 5C isn't an issue)
- can view files recorded with my graph
- firewire channel changing works perfect (always has actually)
- Sage calls sgraphrecorder fine and changes the channel
- I know the files are writing to the directory because I see them growing if I start a recording, and I can play them with VLC
- In my Sage properties file, I'm forcing the recording directory for the tuner to be where I put my dump file

Despite all this, Sage just tells me that there's "No Signal". (Even if I see the green recording bar progress telling me it's writing a file.)

I've played around with all sorts of tuning delay settings in sgraphrecorder, and none of them work. As little as 100 and as much as 8000 delay. I've even removed the channel changing lines from sgraphrecorder.ini to see if I can just get Sage to grab the stream and play it...but that hasn't worked either.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm so close!

I understand you have played with the tuning delay in sgraphrecorder.ini but did you also change the tuning delay in the the sage.properties files for the firewire tuner? (I know it's in the MMC\Encoders section but I don't remember the exact line).

I believe the tuning delay in the sage.properties file should be about a second or so longer then what is set in the sgraphrecorder.ini file. (i.e. if sgraphrecorder is set to 5000 (5 sec) then the Sage.properties file should be set to 6000 (6 sec) or longer. ymmv

The majority of my firewire recordings are just fine (especially since I got both tuning delays set) but I still get the occasional corrupted file. Sage won't play the file but Windows Media Player will.

What do you mean by this?
The dump file should be in one of your recording directories. I have two directories that I record files to and I don't have to specify anything in the properties file for the recording directory. but I do have

mmc/encoders/12346/delay_to_wait_after_tuning=5000

Can you view the sage recorded file in another program? Does it have a real file name? (not Dump.ts)

Good luck...

Jim

Yes, I've played with the various delays in Sage as well as the sgraph ini file. And what I mean by forcing the tuner to look in the specific directory where my dump.ts file goes. I've read a couple posts that suggests if you have multiple recording directories, forcing the tuner to only record specifically to the directory where you save the dump file helps improve performance. In fact, about 2 months ago I posted this for someone else and it made the difference for him (but not me!).

I'm going to try again, but the ONLY way I can get it to work is if I start the recording and I use Explorer to physically LOOK at the directory where I'm placing my dump file. The minute I look there, the show starts playing. It's almost like I have to check in on a little child to make sure they're doing what they are supposed to be doing like cleaning their room....they don't actually do it until I check on them! How weird is that?

Oh, and yes, it has a real file name. Sage just doesn't start playing it.

OK, I got it working...sort of. I set the sgraph ini delay to 5000 and the mmc/encoder delay to 7000. It works the FIRST TIME after I start up Sage, but if I hit stop, wait a few seconds and then choose another channel I get the same error.

Am I missing something else? I've tried to switch the sgraph ini to 'unload on switch' =1 to see if that makes a difference and it didn't seem to change the behavior.

Thoughts?

Here is my .ini section.
Code:
TuningDelay=7000
UnloadGraphOnStop=1
UnloadGraphOnSwitch=1
Here is my channel change script
Code:
@echo off
C:\GetHD\channelw.exe -v -f -d 2 48
ping 1.1.1.1 -n 2 -w 2000 > nul
C:\GetHD\channelw.exe -v -f -a1 2 %1
I Think a bunch of my issues were channel changing related. I played with a script a lot when I had the issues and now I get 99.9% of my recordings correctly.

My channel script does a channel-up. (My thought was it kinda wakes up the cable box). Then it waits two seconds.. Then it will try to tune the channel. I've been good since 8/2010 (that was the date of the script file).

But that may not be your issue.

I'm to the point of giving up -- I've followed the instructions for getting this stuff to work a couple of times now, and have failed on the final step.

For the life of me, I CANNOT get Sage to recognize my firewire as a device.

Everything else works great.. vlc, graphedit, etc etc... just can't get Sage to cooperate. I've tried both of the two latest versions of Sage with the same results.

Any suggestions?

Remember to shut sagetv down completely before enabling you sgraph service (I assume you followed the instuctions on how to setup sgraph as a service). This means shutting down the background server as well as the GUI portion for sagetv. Also you have to ensure somehow that the sgraph services are run first. I believe I had to set up sagetvservice to depend on sgraph before starting. This is the most important thing sage will not recognize the graph as network encoders if the server starts before the graph service.

I wonder if it would be possible to build a small device that had FireWire out to stb and USB/serial out to pc and program the device to change channels after receiving commands from USB then we would only need drivers updated for the device and not a whole slew of drivers for every stb or os that comes out
