Cool Lost recordings...

All but 6 of my SageTV recordings were lost today. The favorites are all still in tact. Every other thing looks great. The oldest of the 6 recordings kept was recorded on 12/15/04. The other 30 or so programs are gone. My favorites rule is to keep up to 3 of each recording. My shows folder rule is to keep 2GB or more free. Any idea what would have caused my shows to disappear?

EDIT:

To be more specific:

12/15/04 = 1 show
12/30/04 = 1 show
01/03/05 = 2 shows
01/04/05 = 1 show and 1 6GB football game

Would the 6GB football game affect anything like that? I had the normal 2GB free when it started recording. If it needed to clear space there shouldn't have been a problem. My drive is formatted with NTFS so the 6GB file size should be fine.

The football game is the only thing I recorded out of the ordinary.

Again SageTV has deleted my recordings. 15 of them are left out of the 60 or so I had this afternoon. What could cause recordings to be deleted for apparently no reason?

Do you have something like Norton Protected Recycle Bin running, where deleted files aren't truly deleted right away? Currently, such a utility will cause SageTV to think the space hasn't been freed, so it will delete another file to make more room, & it just continues.

Also: what version of SageTV are you using?

Version: SageTV V2.2.7

I do have Norton Protect Recycle Bin, but it's disabled. Just now I changed it to use 0% for protection files just in case that is what caused it. It's been over a month since it last happened. Hopefully that change will stop it from deleting everything again.

Is there anything else to watch out for? Or a certain way to disable the Norton Protection to ensure it doesn't happen again?

Thank you.

One more thing. I just noticed this:

Windows Explorer:
Used Space: 20.4GB
Free Space: 77.1GB
Capacity: 97.6GB

SageTV:
Used Space: 21.94GB
Free Space: 82.85GB

What would cause Sage to see the size wrong like that?

If it was because of Norton... I simply unchecked the Enable protection for each recording drive in the Norton Protection tab in the recycle bin properties. I'm not certain what else would cause the problem.

As for the difference in space reported, it all depends on how you define 1 GB. I've seen various definitions, but in this case, it looks like Windows is reporting 1 GB = 1024^3 bytes, while SageTV is using 1GB = 1000^3 bytes.

stop Norton UnErase protection

If you don't want to uninstall Norton completely, then you can/should stop the service called Norton UnErase Protection. But that can leave the hidden norton protected files folders just sitting there, so look for them -- under the recycle folder (you may have to go to the cmd prompt and use the attrib command).

I had unchecked the Enable Protection option in the recycle bin when I first installed Norton. The gigabytes reported makes perfect sense.

As teedublu suggested, I went ahead and turned off the service. Also I removed all the hidden folders in the recycler on each drive.

Thanks again for your help guys. Hopefully this will fix my problem once and for all.
