Intelligent recording off, it still records stuff I didn't set up.

Does anybody else have this problem. Intelligent recording is off. I set it up to record one Antiques Roadshow and it wants to record all of them that are available!

Sage is also recording other shows that I didn't set up.

When you set it to record, did you make it a favorite by mistake? That would cause all of them to be recorded, especially if it defaulted to record repeats and first runs.

Also, other shows are going to show up in the Sage Recordings list if you watch them with intelligent recording off.

So how do you keep it from recording programs you don't want? If I put intelligent recording on, it will record programs I don't want. If I turn it off, it records programs I don't want.

Of course I watch programs I don't necessarily want to record.

I guess I have a lot more to learn.

It's all a trade off. All life is a trade off. I personally hated Intelligent Recording when I first setup SageTV. I was used to the Tivo model. Now I love Intelligent Recording, it finds so many shows I didn't really think to set manually. SageTV mantains your show automatically, deleting as needed, with Intelligent Recording and Watched shows being deleted first.

My advice is to setup SageTV to use the amount of disk space your are comfortable with, and turn on Intelligent Recording. At first Sage will record almost non stop. But as you watch more shows you like it will get smarter. Always put SageTv to sleep when you aren't using it, this way it won't get confused and think you like a show your aren't even watching. If Sage records a show you hate mark it as "don't like".

As for the list you will find that over time you'll build up a group of shows you like, that can be watched at any time. Don't manually delete the "buffer" shows Sage will do it automatically, and by deleting them you just make free space that Sage will then try to fill. If you turn on Autocatogorization your list will be much more manageable. If you try this out for a while I think you will find that the one or two shows at the bottom of the list that Sage automatically recorded don't bother you. If after trying this metod for a week or so you feel there are too many of these shows, then decrease the amount of space you make available to SageTV for recording.

This is one of those cases where trying to control something too much just leads to more work. I hope you grow to love SageTV and all it's little quirks as much as I do.

Sage has to record programs you are watching in order to allow live TV pausing and rewinding...everything that comes through Sage is delayed by a couple seconds because of this functionality

but i think that's one of the best features...that's why i love Tivo so much...to me, timeshifting and the ability to pause live tv are the two most compelling features of a PVR...SageTV does this which is why it's recording so much
