error with client connecting to server
got this error tonight
I can get all of my clients to connect to the server but my main HTPC can't connect for some reason. I can see it in the network neighborhood and can connect to the shared documents folder. The odd thing is the at the end of the error code it says (2) I have tried both IP and computer name. |

What changed recently, anything? Any software or Windows updates?
Is the same client license now in use on more than 1 PC accidentally? The main HTPC is not the same as the server, right? - Andy

I don't think anything really changed.
I don't believe the key is in use in another computer. How do I go about removing the key so that I can try the demo. edit-the only thing that I can think of is that when I first installed XP home I installed the sagetv client on the owners account and I just created a AJ account for ease of network use. I think I ran into some difficulty here but before I recognized this I deleted the original account. the server is its own seperate box so the HTPC is all by itself Last edited by AJ Bertelson; 12-31-2004 at 12:48 AM. |

You could try the REGISTER command line parameter (see the appendix in the manual for those params) & then not enter a key. Have you had all these clients connected at the same time before?
Before doing anything drastic, be sure to close all the clients & simply restart SageTV (server) if you haven't already done so. That would at least clear the current client connections so you would know whether it could be a multiple license issue. - Andy

Just checked out the client license and it isn't a problem.
Is there anyway for the sagetv server system to detect connections through log files? I can ping the sageserver with the HTPC system. Last edited by AJ Bertelson; 12-31-2004 at 01:01 AM. |

I had a problem with Client connecting to the server. It turned out that the problem was some virus software that I recently installed. I finally figured it out and uninstalled the virus software. I think the problem was that the software was specifically blocking Client while allowing other programs access.

either that or firewall software. If you are using WinXP SP2, be sure to configure the Windows Firewall to unblock SageTV Client.

Just did a format re-install
Here is how it goes. -installed demo version and it connects to server no problems what so ever, can see sage recordings and all that good stuff -Add key and it boots me out saying giving me the above error Rite now I have 3 sagetv keys. One for the HTPC_upstairs, one for the workstation, and one for the HTPC. I pretty much know for a fact that the other two keys are on the HTPC_upstairs and the workstation but its pretty obvious that it is a key error. What happens if I do the REGISTER command and try the keys from one of the computers? I would really like to get this working but I don't want to invalidate any of my other keys. |

You haven't mentioned this, so: did you ever restart the server, as I mentioned above? The server is tracking the client key connections & it sounds like you may have changed something regarding the client installation in this case, in which case, it may think there is a second attempt to use the same key. Since the trial works until you enter the key, exit all clients & restart the server. Try this client first afterwards.

Worked for a little while then I start the clients and they all connected and could browse the sage recordings. Put each one of them in sleep and then woke the HTPC client and am getting the original problem.
in the process of rite now restarting the server and then starting each client to find out what key is shared. looks like the workstation and the htpc share the same key. What should I do with the three keys that I have, I think I know what one I can use for the htpc but could it invalidate the keys from the HTPC_upstairs? got it to work. I just said to heck with it and did the register shortcut and was lucky enough that the key on my workstation was registered in my wifes name.
It would be really nice if there was a way to find out what keys were on each machine though, using something like the last 12 letters that are in the key. |

I missed the question in yesterday's reply -- I think I saw the original post before it was edited. Anyway... I think that is pretty much the only thing to do: use the REGISTER parameter & then re-register each, making sure they all use unique keys. Oh yeah: SageTV server would need to be restarted in that process, probably before reregistering everything.
