I would like to go to sleep straight from watching (either right click or icon on OSD) without having to go "home" first. I'm specifically referring to using a mouse for this functionality.
I just realized, that sounds kind of funny.

I asked about this in the wrong forum (beta).. so i'll put it here for consideration..
I would really like an option to perform a manual recording, fully specifying details if you want or not... giving it a channel number which my actisys will send to the satellite box, for channels that aren't in my XMLTV source.. or for channels that i dont want to add to my XMLTV source just for very occasional shows... A lot, if not most, of the requests(including alot of mine) are... Sage should be able to do this since my tivo can do it already. I personally feel that Sage should be able to duplicate all of my Tivo's functions. Sage already excedes Tivo in many areas, so it's just a matter of closing the last few gaps. I'm confident this will happen. The rapid pace of improvement assures me of this. Still it's obvious Sage won't fully be ready for the mainstream(noncomputer enthusists) public til it duplicates all of the tivo's feature set. IMO

DiD any1 post about Advanced Video Tweaks being done on screen screen, so u can easily tweak visuals??
This would be easier than guessing in 1 screen, and returning back to live TV, switch channels, then repeat. my 2 centavos - Cab |

Cabalsan, yes, we have, but it's always nice to have backup.
I'll go one step further.... the difference between my the 250 I have which records s-video from the cable box and the 250 which records analog cable via its own tuner has become essentially unbearable. I may have to remove one of them until there is a solution. While one is washed out and grey, the other is oversaturated with color. This means that, when I calibrate one properly, the other is essentially unwatchable. How about if SageTV allowed for custom color/white/black settings on playback, based on which card was used to record a particular show. That would allow me to at least partially correct for the card that isn't properly calibrated in the Hauppauge properties window. |

DVD+RW Support is easy with Nero Engine
I would like support built into Sage TV to support dumping the MPEG files from the TV library onto a DVD+RW drive. At first this may sound like a major untertaking, but with the Nero engine this is incredibly simple.
I am an entry level Visual C++ programmer, and I wrote an application to burn DVD's using Nero's engine in a couple hours. The API to their engine is public, you can just require users who wish to use this feature to purchase Nero. I would like to see it that it would make each file a Track on the DVD, and for RW disks it would just add the new tracks to the end. Let me pick and choose a handful of shows and burn them all at once. In my opinion this is the only feature that I am looking for that you do not support. For an example of a program that uses the Nero Engine, look at DVDXCopy... http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/13807 -Adam White |

I don't currently use sagetv but I would definately buy it if it supported my Nexus-S dvb card. It is my primary method of receiving TV.

Thought of one more, not sure if it's in here yet or not-- expand Favorites to search for more than just show, like keyword or actor. I've got a lot of actor friends who have basically set up their tivo's to record anything that their friends are in; if you did something similar with Sage, preferably grouped by actor name, rather than tv show name, you'd have a huge hit in that community, particularly amongst the geeks like me who could then cut those episodes to DVD for our friends...

Put an option in settings to make it discard things it records while your casually watching TV. I don't want my 'sage recordings' list clogged up with things I didn't ask it to record. Create a seperate buffer space for it to record live TV to allow for pause and rewind functions.
Translucent OSD. I want to be able to watch TV while surfing the channel guide. At the very least, I would like to see the TV picture be inset in the channel guide screen like a picture-in-picture would be. I don't want it to pause TV when I go to the guide. Better channel guide source. It doesn't have my local cable guide. Only thing for my area was direct tv, so I had to choose that then renumber all the channels. - Marc |

Is there a picture viewer available? For instance with myHTPC, you can view photos full screen

Yes yes, Broncomac hit it dead on - translucent OSD. That would be so cool.
Or maybe window it, like some digital cables do, to the bottom 1/3rd of the screen. -Cab |

Request: The ability to review a list of previously "recorded/watched" programs. There should be a "Re-record" or "Delete from list" option so that the program will be recorded again the next time it is on.
In the past I have deleted programs from my library for various reasons: running low on disk space, unsure I wanted to keep a complete series, missed the first or last minute, etc. I now have a DVD recorder and would like to re-aquire some of those programs. There are others I want to re-aquire in a higher quality. Unfortunately, SageTV won't record them again because it "knows" I already watched them. I know I could set programs to be recorded manually, but then I would have to keep a constant eye out for the episodes I want. As an alternative to modifying SageTV, perhaps some sort of Wiz.bin file editor could be created? |

Another request: Ability to set day, time, and/or channel restrictions for favorites. I know others have requested this, but I have not seen an indication from Frey that this may be added.
The new TV season is about to begin and I foresee many problems. Say I want to record the new Friends every Thursday night. I set Sage to record "First Runs" only, but that also records many rerun episodes on other channels that don't report "First Run/Rerun" status. I realize this is partially a limitation of XMLTV data, but even if it wasn't, this could still be usefull. For instance, I would like to record one rerun a week of some shows that play 5-10 times a week in syndication (MASH for instance). If I could set it to record off of one particular channel, I would get a contiguous plotline in a collection of episodes rather than three or four different plots from different seasons going on at once on diffent channels. Don't know if I explained that very well, but I hope you get the idea. For me, this is going to be a problem with Friends, Third Watch, ER, and Simpsons to name a few off the top of my head. Each one airs reruns almost daily on different channels. That's a lot of wasted disk space when I only really want the new episodes. |

Something I'd like to see is with regard to record padding.
If you turn Intelligent Recording off, Sage records all programs with about a 2 minute padding before and after. If it's on, it doesn't do that because it's recording shows before and after each show. What I'd like to see is that if Sage is recording a favorite, have it do the automatic padding. If it's a recording Sage thinks you like, then have it not pad. This way, you ensure that your favorites get recorded in their entirity. |

Blink tray icon
Could you blink the tray icon so I can see when Sage is recording to disk. It would be best if you only blinked it during a scheduled or favorite recording, not timeshifting.

How about a better file hierarchy? Configure a root dir and then sage will make sub dirs for each program with just the tiles as names
EX: d:\video = root Simpsons will go under d:\video\Simpsons\Show1.mpg Futurama under another: d:\video\Futurama\BenderGetsMade.mpg Also with the filenames, can you replace spaces with '_' instead of deleting them? This way I wouldn’t have to edit anything in my DVD titles! |

Since Sage likes to record all the time...I like to make all the shows I like into favorites so that it at least records things I might be interested in rather than random junk. The problem is, I end up ripping out my hair when I sit down and find it recording some rerun of an obscure show I have minor interest in, rather than say, my #1 favorite. It seems no amount of removing and re-adding favorites and meddling with conflicts can get this right. I would LOVE to manually order my favorites. As it stands now, I can't trust Sage - making favorites useless. 2) On a slightly different note ... if I manually ask Sage to record some specific timeslot... I don't mind if it brings up a conflict dialog for some other thing I manually specified to record in the same timeslot... but I would like a pref to have it not bother asking me about conflicting favorites in this case. Manually specifying a recording should automatically override any automatically scheduled favorites recording. |
