not sure if this has been suggested before but getting access to the favourites priority list within SAge... the thing that lets sage decide when programmes clash whether to record one or the other... importantly the ability to then edit this order... so rather than relying on sage getting it right, being able to interogate and then decide that your favourite favourite programme is
A B C D E .... such that that priority will ALWAYS be enforced.... newly added favourites can be flagged as unedited and put at the bottom of the list.. as conflicts occur it goes up the list... otherwise you can manually find the new show and put it in your priority list where you want it.... The ability to then set those favourites to certain channels only would also be useful, tho i know this has been suggested before |

A button in the 'Detailed Info' window that copies the lines (with coma separating) to the clipboard for easy pasting in a database (like Excel) - would be great for the ones building a home video server
When selecting 'Move To Library' another window could pop up. Window title could be: 'Select Category'. Then there could be a list like 'Comedy', 'Action', 'Reality Shows', 'Pron' , etc. and last 'Make New Category' (that would create a new folder and ask the user to give it a name) - again, this would be great for the ones who plan to save "a lot of shows" Repeated requests Top priority: OSD through Hauppauge PVR 350 Audible feedback Skins and custom buttons from users All for now, only bought the program today |

If VMR allows a program to create multiple overlay surfaces, how about making picture-in-picture for those with multiple tuners?
If that were implemented, you'd probably get quite a few more people buying a second TV card, including myself. Lauren |

How about a storage guage? It would be awesome in the Sage recordings view at least to have a simple percentage readout at the top-right of the screen that indicates how much disk space is available for recording. Maybe next to it a guage that indicates how much disk space would be available after all intelligent recordings are purged.

OK,
My turn. I have mulitiple video sources connected to my TV. Sage is one of them, it watches analog cable through the tuner. I would like Sage to be more "additional video source" friendly. I now have a additional composite input connected / mapped to a unused channel. This is connected to my digital cable box which the family uses 75% of the time. However, no guide is easily connected to this imput so I have allowed "No Data". Because of these situations, I would like a interface like SageRecorder where I can specifify channel, time start, time end - added to Sage. This way I can add several inputs to SageTV and tell them to manually record them easily. -Stan |

Support for "external" computer/web viewing.
The way my house is set up, I have my TV downstairs and my main computer (a Mac) upstairs. I would like to be able to connect to my SageTV from the Mac (via a web brouser?) and watch TV from there. With multiple tuner cards, it would be nice if my watching TV did not mess with anyone who may be watching from downstairs (assuming that there is a tuner available). If there is no available tuner card then being able to whatch what one of the tuner's us recording, or something in archive, would be really nice. To make sure that this would not be PC specific, I would really prefer a web interface. - Jonathan

The ability to set the time after which SageTV will record an episode of a show that has already been recorded, watched, and automatically deleted. Currently the setting is infinity. Meaning no watched show is ever recorded again. See this thread to see why you would want this feature.

filename of saved recordings configurable.
I would love to see the ability to have a little bit more info put into the filename like station.show.SAGECODE.mpg

1)How about the ability to automatically periodically save the "Recording Schedule" Guide list to a standard text file. You could make it an option in the properties file. You should be able to specify how often a copy is saved, and how far into the future the file's recording schedule list should go. It could go then be printed out and easily read by the user anywhere. Or the file could be accessed by another program to help intergration with SageTV.
Edit:Added to my satisfaction in 1.4.7, Thanks Last edited by justme; 09-01-2003 at 11:58 PM. |

Here are mine, many may have come up before (or may work now)....
The ability to adjust the jump period for fwd and bck keys seperatly. like fwd=30sec and back=7sec. (great for commercials) I second the "keep x episodes" (auto delete the rest) My "replay TV" has a "record any show with 'star trek' in the title", "keep nn hours total" they call it theme recording Record priority for conflicts on the above theme idea "Nova" prio 7 would over ride "star trek" prio 5. Normal selected recording could have a default priority (or user selected one). Priority 10 = Guaranteed (these would have to be resolved manually and Sage should warn you) better direct tuner control, hitting 123 from the keyboard should jump to channel 123 directly (unless you're recording) a small icon that indicates "live" so you know when to stop hitting the >> key. Hitting the FF key in the program guide jump 1/2 day fwd REW 1/2 back. After title searching, two options (record all epiosids) would by default record every show (only at that time period, on that day) then a submenu with S-M-T-W-T-F-S check boxes to add other recording days. (if you wanted all of the shows you would use [the above] theme channels via a "create theme button" to get all of them on any channel at any time) user selectable file storage format (like MP3 juke box software) ie: DTV-TNT-CHARMED-20030701-2100.MPG or 20030701-2100-CHARMED.mpg or CH0245-CHARMED-nnnn.MPG or CHARMED-20030701-2100.MPG possible items CH# CH name (TNT) source- (cable, DTV, Air) Title (CHARMED) sortible date sortible time priority # record quality recorded via theme name (star trek) sage generated show serial number an external remote control window (like Ceative's) with an option not to overlay control icons on the view screen, great for big monitors. or if your viewing in a very small window. |

I can control the x/y position of the GUI. Would also like to be able to control x/y position of the videoframe in order to compense for the fact that it is off-center when the zoomed to less than 100%.

Here's another vote being able to specify a preferred channel for favourites recording. This is especially important when the favourite plays on two (or more) different channels at the same time. I'd like to be able to "hint" to SageTV which channel it should choose to record from. This would help me out a lot for two reasons:
1) Some channels are of better quality (clearer, better sound, etc) than others. If my favourite is playing on two channels at the same time, I'd like the clearer channel selected. 2) Some stations have inaccurate listings for some strange reason. For instance, I've got two channels where "American Juniors" comes on at the same time. However one of those channels actually has an inaccurate listing; American Juniors does not in fact show at the time the guide indicates. Invariably, SageTV chooses the inaccurate channel (channel with the inaccurate guide listing) meaning that I am missing episodes of American Juniors and getting some other show instead. If I could "hint" to SageTV which channel to choose then this would solve the above issues. I use the word "hint" instead of force since I would liek to give SageTV the opportunity to use a non-hinted channel in case it runs into some other conflict which it can't resolve another way. Cheers Lester

SageTV should add a properties file option to send a change channel command to an external tuner box whenever it starts a new recording. Currently it only does so if the last recording was on a different channel. This current setup can lead to a mess if you have other people using your tuner box. See this thread.
Thanx to bodgadle, for catching this. Come on Jeff, this should be an easy one. Pretty please. Edit:Added in 1.4.8, Much Thanks. Last edited by justme; 09-01-2003 at 11:01 PM. |

Another thought on volume normalization. Perhaps, it might me even better if each station / fav had a default volume which will be the volume used for the show. I do this with my mp3 collection and it works quite well. The idea is to prevent turing the volume way up for a track which would otherwise be to quiet and then having the next track clip the amp(s)

TiVo-like Functionality
I know these are a reposts, but I am doing it in order to show their importance.
1) Translucent OSD. I want to be able to watch TV while surfing the channel guide. At the very least, I would like to see the TV picture be inset in the channel guide screen like a picture-in-picture would be. MythTV's OSD (http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythFeatures) may not be very pretty but it does show some good functionality. 2) Variable speed Fast Forward and Rewind. When I watch shows that I have recorded on the TiVo, I use fast forward quite a bit (and not just to skip commercials). I like being able to press FF a couple of times to get a faster FF. A configurable "play reset time" would also be nice. When a TiVo moves from hyper FF to play, it rewinds a bit depending on speed to keep you from over shooting. The time that gets rewound is a bit much for me, but may be just right for others. 3) Save until/Save at most. I really like being able to keep recordings around until I delete them, or make them candidates for deletion after a certain period of time. Things I wish the TiVo had. 1) Program Reminders. These are shows that I would like to be reminded are on, but don't really want recorded. If I am watching TV (not necessarily a pre-recorded show, but who knows), I would like an alert telling me the "Show YYY is on in XX minutes" so I can change the channel or ignore the message. 2) Conflict Warnings. If the program detects a conflict that can not be resolved (i.e., it can not find an alternate record time for a conflicting show) it will give me an alert. Maybe through a "Check Conflicts" selection? 3) Do not Tune. This would be like a parental control, but with shows that I really can't stand. I would really like to have SageTV skip the channels showing certain programs (i.e., infomertials or the local PBS station when it goes OFF AIR) that I really don't want to see. If I tuned directly to the channel then OK, but skip the channel if I am scanning (prev/next channel). Finally, a web interface for the program guide. This doesn't have to be fancy, but I would like to see what shows are going to be recorded, and the TV schedule. Maybe give a check box in the TV schedule telling if the show will be recorded and give me the option to edit that state. Thanks, - Jonathan |

24h clock and DVB support
Hi!
Thanks for a great product! I have a very minor suggestion: How about adding 24 hour clock support in SageTV? I have no problem with AM/PM but 24h would be nicer. Or is this already possible and I've missed it? Also, any news on possible DVB-support for European digital TV? Those cards really don't have software as nice as Sage. I'm sure it would be very successful! Keep up the good work! Regards, Andreas Stockholm, Sweden |
