Getting USB-UIRT to work with remotes

For some reason I have had difficulty getting these two to work together. I added some more tuners to my sage system and I went through the process of adding the new remote codes for my USB-uirt but it will not recognize the remote codes. I can see the USB-uirt working because it blink when I hold the remote next to it. Also while using girder and the plugin for girder whenever I pushed the remote button the button(bottom right corner of the program usually is blue) on the girder program would light up.

I have tried holding it in a lot of different distances but I really haven't had any luck getting it to work. Is there a certain surface you have to hold it on?

When learning codes I have found that you must hold the remote within an inch of the UIRT. Otherwise, it blinks but does not learn.
