Problems and a Question

Hi,

I just started using SageTV, so please excuse me if these questions are sound really easy! I have a WinTV Hauppage card running on a P4 with 512mb ram. When i try and view a channel on the server software, i see a black screen and eventually get the error:

There was a Capture error in playback. Details: ERROR (-6, 0x80004005): There was a problem setting up hardware video compression. Please be sure you have the latest drivers installed for your capture device, and that they are installed correctly.

I have the driver for the card installed, (the driver that came on the cd)
any ideas why i am getting this. Also, sometimes i get errors talking about a problem with video rendering.

Question:
With Sage is it possbile for me to set up my own channel, so that i can like play dvds on a separate channel?

Thanks

ok what kind of hauppauge TV card do you have
SageTV only works with TV cards with hardware encoders
and if a pvr card from hauppauge download the newest inf for which ever card you have

also SageTV can play DVDs using your computers DVD player
and do not need to use an input on the card although you could but I do not know why you would want to
you can rip the DVDs and get a one to one copy instead of a digital to analogue back to digital using compression of the pvr card

make sure you have directx 9 installed
also not all decoders work with every render
what decoder are you trying to use?

and good ripping apps are dvddecryptor, smart ripper and DVD shrink
all free

your card is not supported

you need a pvr 150/150 MCE, pvr 250/250 MCE, pvr 350, or pvr 500
from the hauppauge line up

The other Windows software PVR apps out there are BeyondTV, GBPVR, Windows Media Center Edition (which normally come as all-in-one solutions) but now I believe you can by the software by itself now and a few others that I can't remember at the moment. On the Linux front, there is MythTV which is porported to be one of the best (though I am sure there are differing opinions in that regard). I have not used the others, but I thought Beyond could make use of non-software encoders; you can pick up a PVR-150 for less than $100.00 if you look around the web and then make use of SAGE

Addendum: Your current card is NOT supported by BeyondTV either..; honestly IMO you NEED to have a card that does HW ENCODING to get a decent picture.

Whoops, my mistake; I checked their website and saw that the Hauppauge WinTV-GO 2 wasn't supported; so I jumped the gun, sorry about that...
