Newbie Question: Tuning external cable box

This might be a lame question, sorry... I can't seem to get Sage to change channels when tuning through cable box (Charter Comm.). Have USB-IRT, but have not yet installed remote (Firefly) to see if that works, only using mouse right now to get a feel for things.

Using S-Video from box to pvr-250.

Tuning works fine without external box. Am I missing something?

Have you taught Sage the IR codes from the cable box's remote? You should have done that during the setup wizard.

You say tuning works fine w/o the box. Was this with the cable going directly to the tuner? If so then Sage may not know that you have a cable box now and is trying to use the tuner built into the PVR250. Now that you have a box connected to the s-vid connection you have to run the setup wizard again to change the input and setup the IR codes for the USB-UIRT.

you can setup both analogue and digital inputs for the same card
you do not have to change the input just add another source

Did teach Sage the IR codes for the box during Setup Wizard, also removed all sources and re-ran setup to configure for S-Video, IR, etc. prior to that. Was only able to change channels when cable went directly to PVR250, and Sage was configured to tune that way.

Have tried reconfiguring with different sources (SVid, composite, etc) from box to PC, but none will change channels. Also completely wiped out PC and rebuilt just in case, no dice.

USB-IRT has what looks to be mini-plug in back of IR receiver, then the cable box also has mini-plug labeled IR on the back. Then there is a button labeled "Bypass" on cable box. I ran a cable from mini-plug to mini-plug and turned on Bypass, still no luck when using mouse. Have not tried installing FireFly remote yet to try changing channels that way through USB-IRT.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mini-plug to mini-plug will not work. The one on the back of the cable box is an output so that it can control a VCR. Best bet is not to use the mini-plug on the UIRT until you get the UIRT to change channels using the thru-the-air blaster.

Here is a little utility from Jon Rhees that you can use to send codes manually via the UIRT. Just copy and paste a code from the box's *.ir file in ...\frey technologies\common\remotecodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\ into the app and click send.

This will narrow the problem down to the UIRT itself or Sage.

Sorry, I'm lame and wasn't thinking properly. I didn't have the cable box positioned in a way that it was able to receive the blasts from the UIRT. That problem is solved. Thank you for your help.
